Thumbs up First road trip in the Fit (Tampa to Huntsville)

Last week I took the Fit on her first road trip. 10 hours straight one way, only stopping for gas, and a flat tire. I went from Tampa FL, to Huntsville AL. Then from Huntsville to St. Augustine FL, and finally back home.
It rained all through Florida on the way up, with the 16's I had more tire than car so while everyone was tenderfootin it up I75 doing 50mph, I was cruizin around 100 with no stress.
Took about 2.5 tanks to get from my house to Huntsville, I was really impressed only costing me $45 or so in gas. Found some nice twisty mountain roads through AL, I schooled a Mustang GT till the road straightend up. then I hit a nail, swapped the spare in less than 5 minutes with my Rigid 18volt hooked up to the Honda hook for the jack, and when I was riding on the doughnut it didn't feel much different.

The only thing that sucked was driving through downtonwn Birminigham, the mountains and red lights really showed the Fit's lack of tourque. Also I got a ticket for doing 85 in a 70 on I65 on my way back. Claton Cops don't mess around. So there was no more speeding for me the rest of the way.

The wife told me yesterday that when she drives the Fit now it feels looser, so I guess I broke her in. Very comfortable car to road trip in. I suggest you all take a long ride in your Fits when you get a chance just watch your speed and bring a 18volt drill with a 1/2 inch drive.

Hey 2k7gd3,

You went through downtown B'ham? Not straight thru on the interstate?

AL State Troopers are REALLY working the interstates right now. Supposedly, even the Trooper supervisors are in cars shooting radar this month. There was an email circulating to that effect, telling people to watch their speed in August. It might or might not be true, but I went down to Fairhope last weekend, and saw more Troopers than I usually do. I stayed at 74 instead of my usual speed, just in case. A car would pass me, and a few minutes later I would pass him as he was getting a ticket.

My Fit has 14K now since I got it in March. It's better than ever since it's been broken in a bit. Mileage is around 34 - 36 MPG, depending on how I act. How did yours do?

As we say in Alabama, Havagooden.

ya I took I75 from tampa, got off at tifton Ga and took 82 to 19 to 280 all the way thru downtown b'ham then got on I65 to h'ville.

when i got into Al after ft benning, thats when the roads really got nice and that mustang gt was having trouble with the twisties.

I wish I could tell you my mpg, But I didn't pay attention. I know a half tank took me around 280 miles I can't be exactly sure.

It wasn't much of a road trip but my girlfriend and I took my new fit up to Whistler B.C. from Coquitlam. It was a fun trip. Nice long twisty road. It was slow from traffic going up there but the ride home was more fun. I was still takin it a bit easy though since when we left I still only had 700kms on the car. This is definitly a nice, comfy car good for random road trips.

^^ a k20 with cruise control, is the only thing that would make it better,

and 280 has some steep roads, really needed a k20 there, I'm use to Florida flat lands
