Gas gauge lite
Thanx...just curious how far I could push my luck.....yeah, I know...don't wait too long to fill up !
^ i think usually there's at least about a gallon of fuel left in the car, so however far you can usually get on a gallon is a conservative estimate of your range. but i wouldn't push it just in case something happens.
If I remember right.. you have close to 2 gallons of gas in the tank when your light comes on. Check your owners manual, it gives the exact amount tin there. I personally have gone 50 miles with my gas light on, but I wouldn't push my luck past that.
I haven't read he manual but my friend who is a honda tech says it's 1.8 gal. which would be in line with the approx. 2 gallons mentioned above.
I personally never (except once, read on) let it go below 1/2 to 1/4 - anything lower and you begin to risk the introduction of any particles/sediment at the bottom of the tank. I doubt that on a new car it's much of an issue, but having second hand cars all my life prior to the Fit has in-grained this cautious habit.
However in one instance for me on the highway I was stubborn and more concerned with getting to my destination then heeding my light warning and I got to my destination with gas to spare - I distinctly remember going 68.4 miles from the time the light first came on until I finally gassed up. I might have been holding my breath most of the way LOL. I HIGHLY recommend NOT doing this. But, if you're in a pinch and your light comes on, I don't think it's time to panic just yet, especially in such a frugal gas sipper like the Fit.

I am fairly sure you will never run out of gas in your Fit. Just keep on driving for as long as you like.
Especially with the price of gas being what it is, it just seems silly to buy gas right now.
Personally, I am afraid to be the one to try this first, but I would like to invite anyone here to be the one. Thanks; I do appreciate your help in this experiment.
Vaya con Dios, Bebe.

I've been stranded several times in the past with my previous cars because I was too stubborn to stop at the "next" gas station. If this ever happened to me again with my FIT, I would probably just abandon my FIT on the hi-way, strip down to my underwear, & then jump in front of an on coming truck !!!
According to page 62 of the 2007 Owners manual "When the indicator comes on, there is about 1.7 US gal (6.3 l) of fuel remaining in the tank before the needle reaches E. There is a small reseerve of fuel remaining in the tank when the needle does reach E."
So, if you get ~35 m/g, you could safely go 50 miles. YMMV

1.8 gallons left --> let's say anywhere from 25-35 miles per gallon.. just do the math..
I live 25 miles from my job. Several times, I have had the fuel light come on before I got home after work, and then gotten up the next morning and driven the 25 miles to work before buying gas.
However, this week, I was almost to work when the light came on, so I worked all day before buying gas in the evening. During the workday, a cold front came in and the temperature dropped about 15 degrees F. When I got in the car, the gas had contracted so much from the cold, that the needle didn't move. If I had tried to make it home, I would have been walking after a few minutes. I actually put in 11.97 gallons.(yes, I know it isn't good to put in that much; I usually don't.)
I say all that to say this: Several factors can affect the distance that you can drive after your fuel light comes on. Be on the safe side. If your light comes on, buy gas within a few miles.

Remember, the gas gage is non-linear and gas contracts and expands with temperature.
The 1/4 tank rule is the safest rule of thumb for the following reasons:
1. You can fill up at the station of choice
2. The gas gage is non-linear
3. You will not pick up debris in the tank
4. The gas gage is non-linear
5. Your fuel pump will last longer
6. The gas gage is non-linear
Never, ever trust any indicator (gage) near the limits of it's travel!
