'09 fit, break in - long trip ok?

Hey there, so I'm probably going to purchase a Fit here shortly. I really like what the reviews are saying, and it's the type of vehicle I'm looking for. Thing is, one of the first things I'm going to need to do in my car is take a long trip.

I read various things on 'breaking in' a car... but they seem to contradict. It's a little confusing. Is it safe to take a long car trip in a new car without causing an issue?

BTW, I'm talking about 1200 miles or so.

break in trip

Hi
You can do the long trip, but DO NOT USE the cruise control. You have to vary your speed during breakin, and no red line driving

that's right, if you use cruise control, you end up with broken seals on your tail lights. not good!

enjoy your new car. as jim mentioned above, you'll want to vary your rpm's.

thanks for the responses, guys.

What is meant by red line driving? that mean maxing out RPMs? Could be difficult to vary the RPMs a lot during a long trip, but I suppose if you stay aware of needing to do it... it isn't too difficult.

Redline driving = running your engine at the engine speed marked out by the RED LINE on the tachometer. Yes that means maxing out on RPMs.

From what I know, Honda engines have been broken-in at the factory. Honda has an engine plant a few hours away from where I live. Basically they break engines in by revving them to redline.

Don't worry too much - drive as normal.
