68000 mile tune up cost.

Is $400 reasonable?

Also I'm getting my fuel line check. What should I look into so I won't get ripped by the stealership?

Tell us what they want to do. What is the shop's labor rate?

What does the Maintenance Minder say needs to be done?

Often a dealer will have their own "schedule" of services. Some of which you don't need...

Hey thanks for the response Carbuff2. My maintenance minder does not say anything and nothing is lit. Anyways, my main purpose is to have the valves adjusted because I think it is a little noisy and I can hear the cylinder tapping. I don't know if the tappining sound is normal and maybe I'm just being paranoid. Secondly, I want them to check my fuel line because my gas mileage went down from 32mpg-34mpg when I used to get 37mpg-39mpg with the same driving style. I even tried to hypermile to get the gas mileage that I'm losing but 35mpg is the best that I can get which I normally get 40+mpg when I hypermile.

How long has the mileage been lower? If it is significantly colder you can see a drop. I get 32-33 in the winter 36-38 summer her in CO.

Most of the time, even the air filter, it is a lot cheaper to DIY. Read the manual. The only thing you can't do is change/flush the transmission @ 30,00 and 60,000mi. I have been quoted from $85.00 to $185.00. I am going to go to my car club and bring my own fluid.
@ $400.00 most of that is on the book labour.
This means the dealership will charge you the 'on the book labour' do the car in 30min = make a good profit!
And, of course the tyre rotation: lift up one side and rotate then do the other.

LOL $400 thats a rip off. air filter, oil change, cabin filter change, new spark plugs, new fuel filter, new belt, valve adjustment, and etc. I could do all that myself and not even spend more than $250

Isn't the fuel filter in this car supposed to last 100k+ miles or something?

Also regarding MPG, do test your O2/AF sensor. I don't know if testing it will bring up a problem (and I did not test mine), but my sensor wasn't throwing any codes but as soon as I swapped it out for a new one my MPG went up 3-4 instantly.

... I thought that just like my 2000 Accord the Fit does not need a real tune up until 100K miles. My son has a '94 3 door Civic and never changed fuel filter. Coils are supposed to last a long time as are spark plugs. The only thing I am look to do @ over 60k is the tranny fluid flush.

I would just drain and fill the tranny every 30k miles or less (if lots city driving..), change the air filter and call it a day. pvc valves if you are able.
100k is the big, timing belt/water pump, spark plugs etc.

It's always worth it to try the Idle Learn Procedure for the gas mileage thing.

But yeah, winter gas (and cold starts) drops my MPG about 10 - 15% too.

+++++++++++++

You can see what Maintenance Minder services are coming up next by cycling the trip odo button to OIL LIFE %, then holding it...the codes that are "scheduled to appear" will then show.

Bringing your car in for tune ups and recommended maintenance is simply a waste of money. I use my maintenance minder for oil changes and that's it. Have them change the tranny fluid and do a valve adjustment. Change out the air and cabin filters on your own and your good for a while.

Thumbs down Big Cha Chig my Fit friend

Yes Sir My milage took a nose dive 11/23/09 and hasn't come back up. I track it on line and it has gone down 10-15%. Fresh oil and filter is a must in these little engines, every time I change mine I see a improvement in mpg.
Taking your car to get work done is like (most) of us here taking our wallet out and letting a stranger borrow it.

Me I love to work on MzFiT look forward to it and as for the valve adjustments is one of the 1st things I'll do this spring. It is really simple the cam gear is marked so that you know when it's alined to the proper cylinder to adjust the valves.
Black01 $400.00 bucks is a lot of cash to spend with only 68k on the clock. Maybe if ya beat your car like a rented mule everyday ya might need some major work done, but as said b4 these cars are build with 100k mile tuneup ability, most all cars are today.
Me i just changed the oil yesterday and filter the air filter was changed this fall and I expect to get 29-33 mpg with this "winter gas mix" hiway and 28 around town and yes I use hi test because i see 2mpg more and the 2.00 it cost to fill it up is OK with me. Use a quality gas Co. I use Exxon and get the best mpg. If you use cheaper gas use an injector cleaner 1k or so this will improve the spray pattern of the fuel @ the injectors. If your valves are loose they will sound like sewing maching or better yet like shaking the silverware draw non-stop.
Just like rest of us if it makes you sleep better at night go ahead and take it to the Dddeaaa l e r, man I can't say it but you know what I mean.

Happy Motoring to ya brudder!

PS if your Fit is an automatic ya need to change the A/T fluid! I drained mine @ 12k and used Amsoil universal as a replacement, but I'm really a bit nuts when it comes to mantience, I look foreward to it!!

At 68k I would replace the automatic transmission fluid even if the Maintenance Minder has not called for it.

If the engine and cabin air filters have not been replaced within the last 30k, they should also be done.

You're probably getting close to the 3-yr interval for a brake fluid flush, so I would have that done as well. Also have the rear brakes cleaned and adjusted at the same visit.

Try and do the stuff you can do like changing the cabin filter: right behind the glove box. Look in the manual and ask the dealership about DIY. Myself, I buy the oil & filter on special usually. I belong to a car club and the labour is real cheap. I bought Honda AT fluid at a discount and had another shop change the fluid: cheaper than dealership.
You get my train of though...

It seems to me that the Honda cars do not need a tune up for 100k?

Spark plugs and valve adjustment are due at around 110k. Fluids and filters still need to be replaced at regular intervals.

In my Accord I change the transmission fluid twice yearly because of reported transmission problems. My Fit I change the fluid every 30k.
