I live in Alabama but drive my fit up once a month to Ottawa On. I used to drive my 4X4 toyota tundra up last winter, but was thinking about taking the fit up this year. I usually spend 1 to 2 weeks there and was thinking about these all season tires ExtremeContact DWS, but was also thinking about buying a set of winter tires just for my trips but wasn't sure how they would hold up on long distances over dry pavement and if there would be any other down sides to using these tires on my trips. Ant advice would be greatly appreciated since i see Ottawa got there first snow.

i wouldnt drive on the winter tires that far of a distance just to use them for a week or two. I would just use the all seasons and put chains/socks on the tires for the snow up in canada since the snow is temporary. I think that is the most cost effective and gives you the traction you would need. Tire rack sells the sock/sweater which is much more easy to put on than snowchains.

 

I would recommend to use Nokian WR tires. They are a snow tire designed for all year use. They are not the best snow tires for this reason but for what you need them for. They will do just fine. Dont use chains or anything like that up here, the cops will have lots of fun with you. Its not allowed in Ontario.
