lots of short trips are going to drag MPG way down. although 18 is stupid low.

are you in queens?

what was your MPG prior to doing deliveries?

if i just drive in-town (nj suburb) i usually get 25-27mpg.
if you're in queens, with more stops and starts... plus deliveries... ooofah. MPG would take an additional hit.

yah as spinout mentioned, short distance driving really eats gas a lot.

also check your tire psi.

What kind of miles on the car? If the valves have gotten so far out of whack that the exhausts aren't able to fully close, that'd do it for sure! There's a DIY on here somewhere for valve adjustment.... only takes a noob 2-3 hours, but gotta be done with engine cold (block under 100 degrees)

If you stop every couple of blocks for a 30 second red light you'll get really bad mileage.

You could always reset the trip odometer and drive a couple of miles on a highway and see how that goes.

Gas mileage has been coming up a lot lately, I live in the city as well and mileage sucks unless I get some highway traveling in typically.

depends on where you live and what traveling you do with your fit. Stop and go kills mpg so bad I live in the city and my mpg sucks. I did a 112 mile non stop drive and I got mad mpg that day. 112 miles and my fuel meter barely went 1/4 inch away from the full line.

My wife's '08 started getting bad MGP (low 20's) at around 35000 miles. I adjusted the valve and it fixed the issue. The exhaust valves were wayyyy too tight, which was surprising at such low mileage.

I use to do deliverys in my old 98civic and I would get horrible gas mileage but it would only happen when i did deliveries but try some fuel injection to clean that out along with a tune up.

Are you sure you're correctly measuring your MPG? Is it idling for long periods of time? I find it difficult to believe a Fit could deliver 18 MPG without an obvious extremely poor running engine.

It easily could. I reset my odometer when I buy gas and in the ten block drive from the gas station I get 15-20 mpg, simply because every block has a traffic light, it's hilly (admittedly mostly uphill), I'm guaranteed to hit at least two red lights, and the turn onto my street requires waiting until the traffic stops. Add to that someone stopping for deliveries, having to shut off and restart the car each time, and that could use a lot of gas for not that many miles.

BC: I can buy that scenario. I was thinking more of an overall MPG figure for typical mixed-use and figured 18 was way too low without an accompanying malfunction to explain it. The OP didn't give us many details to work with, and I've known more than a few folks who didn't really know how to calculate MPG correctly.
