Good price for a 2009 M/T Sport?

I admit I've been lurking for a couple of months and, thanks to you all, have learned a lot about Fits.

I'm looking at a 2009 M/T Sport with 47,000 miles. The dealer has dropped the originally advertised price by $2K to $14,985, not including tax, etc. It comes with a Thule rack, including air deflector, and all weather mats, front, back and cargo areas. I figure that's about $300 - $400 in extras.

I've test driven it twice and runs very well, seems tight - no rattles, good tread, good sounding radio ; ). It also comes as Honda Certified with 12,000 limited warranty. My question: what do you think of the price?

Thanks for any input and advice!

Prices were ridiculously high on used Fits this summer (the tsunami) so this seems low, but $14,600 is the edmunds "true market" price for a certified used car in your area. $14,985 Sounds reasonable so long as they aren't charging for other stuff like "dealer administration fees."

go for it.

Thanks! I saw that at Edmunds and plan to use it during the final negotiations. The car's been on the lot for a while: apparently the M/T is not a strong selling feature here.

That's pretty reasonable actually. See if you can have an early morning test drive to see how she does in the cold. My '09 Fit sport doesn't like a cold clutch, but other than that she runs beautifully.

I get a kick out of looking at the bluebook value of mine. If I turned around today and sold her, I'd pocket close to 5 G's. She's worth about 15,500 and I own 9,900 on her as of yesterday. Pretty sweet resale value there....

Pulled the trigger...

I bought the Fit Saturday morning! We went back/forth a bit and came to agreement at $14,700. Edmunds listed a fair price for my area - upstate NY - at $14,687, so we were pretty close. Total, including tax (7%) registration and title came to $15,985. In addition to the rack and mats, it also comes Honda Certified. I hope to have the financing in place by the end of the week and plan to pick it up Monday, 9/26.

Thanks for all your helpful advice! This is a great forum and I look forward to keeping up with all news that's Fit!

BTW, with this purchase, I officially entered geezzerhood: just turned the big 6-0!! But I guess that's another thread...

47K miles is high. forget about the aftermarket bits in your calculation as that's extras you dont want and will remove anyway (well pertend you dont want them even if you do).

push them to go down another 1200 and show them you're serious to buy (bring a checkbook).

Cool!

welcome to the monkey house. There are a fair number of geezers (I prefer George Carlin's term) that hang out here. I'll be in that group before getting another car.

Wow! Great deal! I used to live in Plymouth NH - great roads for buzzing around as long as it's not winter. Good luck with your new Fit!

I'm in Upstate NY, too, and just bought a 2009 Sport M/T with 53K miles, with new tires, second set of rims with mounted studded snow tires, roof rack, and the 100,000 extended warranty. All from a private sale for $13,500.

I think I was looking at the car you just purchased, but it was more than I wanted to spend. Not a bad deal, I just kept looking for something better.

I have to say, these cars are AMAZING! I am sure you will LOVE it!!!

Do you know if the recall work was done on it? I have yet to do it on mine. Not sure which dealer I want to take it to...

Welcome to the Fit Freak Community.

I bought the car from Saratoga Honda. The former owner had it serviced there and they showed me the service records. It had the recall work done - something I wouldn't have known about if not for this forum.
You got a great deal on that private sale - especially with the extra set of winter wheels and tires. And it sounds like the car was well taken care of too - good luck! I'm looking forward to picking mine up on 9/26 and I'm sure will be on this forum with additional questions and updates - thanks again to all for your help!

Hmmmm. I might have my recall work done there, then. Carbone is the dealer closest to me and I have not heard of their track record on this tricky recall.

I want to driver her a while to get the feel of her, pre-recall, before getting the work done.

See ya 'round the forum, neighbor!

Sorry, I forgot to mention: we bought a 2009 Accord new there - (got a good deal during the first recession! ; ) and have been satisfied with their service. They seem to have their act together, and it's also very convenient to where I work. I'd recommend them.

I paid $15,800 for my 2010 Sport M/T with 14,000miles on the ODO. If you are willing to travel - then you can find a good price.

I was about to buy the same vehicle from NJ for $15,000 and only 10,000miles on it, but someone put a downpayment on it minutes before I did

I saw that mine was part of the lost motion spring recall and the car runs fine, don't really have a baseline to compare it to.
