Scratched glass?

Earlier this week, the apartment complex was resurfacing my section of the parking lot so I temporarily parked in another section. When I came back a day later, there was a lovely note on my fit that said something like "this is my spot. If you don't move, I'll have you towed." It was especially irritating since there is an abundance of spots, but notes are easily thrown away... Since the resurfacing was done, I just moved the car back to my usual spot.

It wasn't until a day or two later that I realized this upstanding individual had also written "TOW ME" in the dust that was on my back window (I had driven on an unpaved road the day earlier and had not yet cleaned it off). I figured I'd just clean it and move on. However, I have now cleaned the window 10? times and I can still see "TOW ME" in the window when the sun hits it directly (e.g. sunset). I have used windex, soap, rain-x, but all to no avail.

Now I'm wondering if the window is permanently damaged?

In this picture you can see that the writing is clear-ish but the window looks a bit hazy. Did the abrasive dust simply cut through residue on the window? In that case, maybe I can just remove the rest of the residue? I'm really frustrated that my two month old fit now says "TOW ME" every time I look backwards at dusk/dawn.

Have any of you seen this before or have suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Try a claybar on it.

I used this stuff

Diamondite® Glasswork System Kit for Hand Application

the clay did nothing for me but the restorer is magic. I bet the main ingredient is "Barkeepers" stuff. I used a toothbrush and it worded like a charm.

Yeah, I'm not sure what that is. When it's not under direct and strong lighting, it actually looks very clear. However, when I run my hand over the class it feels a little rough. Based on some of the suggestions here, I guess I'll give the claybar a try and then go from there. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

I tried the claybar and that actually did the trick. No more "TOW ME" when I look out the rear window. Thanks for the advice!

Sounds like someone in your apt complex is a dick.

I solved my neighbor issues with a simple sticker.

If your neighbor keeps doing it, I'd recommend contacting the police, it is vandalism afterall.

I solved my neighbor problems by loudly professing my love for the second amendment to solicitors.

GET OFF MY LAWN.

Yea I did similar. My neighbors see me carry my guns out at least 1-2 times a week, either going to the range or selling one to buy another. Every car in my parking area in the complex was keyed, couple slashed tires but mine, 100% OK. LOL
