Yokohama S drive = great wet performance
Yokohama S drive = great wet performance
So I was driving home late at night in rainy conditions when an oncoming driver suddenly me off at an intersection without signalling.
I was able to stomp on the brakes and I stopped on a dime thanks to the great traction I got from my Yokohama s drives on the wet pavement. I didn't even feel ABS engage.
These tires were very affordable and are a great choice for summer. They pretty much saved me from a nasty head on collision. However, traction on ice is non existent, you might as well be driving a bobsled so these cannot be used where there is a chance for snow or ice.
Strongly recommended.

I had a couple of set a few years ago and wish I would have kept buying them after they wore out. I've had a few few different sets that are similar in price and I haven't found a tire I like more than the s.drive.
I hear they wear out quickly. People have complained getting only 15k miles on them. I've had them for under 5k. Was that your experience?
Both of my sets wore pretty quickly. But I did a lot of fast(for the fit) back road driving then. I don't really know mileage I'd like to say they lasted longer than 15,000. The reason I didn't get them again was because I kept getting deals on other tires. I can say that I'll never buy any falken ziex tires again.
Awesome tire dry and wet. I was delighted with the wet performance... drove all the way from Portland to the Bay Area in a winter downpour the whole way and the car and tires didn't care in the slightest even at 75+ with occasional standing water.
I've had mine for about 10k miles rode hard and put away wet and they've still got a ton of tread left. I expect about 30k out of them if I ease up and i'm fine with that. Regular rotations and proper tire pressure goes a long way. My crappy Falken 512s only got about 30k and they were pretty bad tires, not for the price, but overall.

ES100's are classics, S-Drives are Neo-Classical
I can also vouch for kenchan's RE760 and even 960 as being very good in the rain. I almost got a set of 960s instead of these because of wet performance but I figured why be safe and have a new experience lol

S-drives are my favorite street tire. Dry, wet traction is great. They are summer tires, so winter/snow sucks (obviously). Which is why I have separate snow tires for the cold months.
My all-time favorite tire, though, is(was) the old RE730's. 40k miles and great traction (for the treadwear). Did well at auto-x events as well. Got RE760's after, which I also liked, but not as much as the 730's. RE010's were great as well, but didn't last as long.
