Why I love me '12 Fit Sport
I gave up a HONDA Element for my FIT. Loved that car. Totally met my needs. Juts not enough seats (family of 5). Really thought I was gonna miss all the internal room. Not so much!

Hey stinklepink, tell me about that road bike you have in there. I have been wrestling with whether to put mine inside or on roof when I get my fit. I like the idea of putting it on the roof but don't want to suck the MPG's out of it. How easy is it getting it in and out?

I got a piece of oak out of the garage that was about 2' X 1' and mounted a fork mount into it with a couple of screws. The fork mounts are available by mail order from Performance Bike and other places. This is not 100% necessary. Just there to keep the bike upright.
Once you do that all you have to do is put the 60 of the 60/40 seats down and insert the bike sideways....then stand up and mount with the front wheel off. Keep in mind that in order to not have the handlebars hit the back glass when the hatch is closed, about 6" of the rear wheel must go between the two front seats.
The bike in these pictures is a GIANT TCR size medium with seat post about 1/3 way up.
Looks similar to this:
Awesome! Thanks.
I was wrestling with whether to get a roof rack to hold my bikes and this is steering me against. Cheaper, too.
Now, is there a size limit with the bikes? Will my Surly Cross Check (size 60) or my All City Nature Boy (size 58) be able to fit (one at a time...)? Or will I have to lower the seatpost or maybe rotate the handlebars down?

Last question I will ask. I am going to measure and cut a board before fixing a Yakima Blockhead to it. Once I get the bike attached to this in the car, how do I keep the bike (while attached to the board) from sliding forward (or backward into the back glass)?
Or do I fix the board in the cargo area somehow?
spaceballs - I put my bikes in the Fit as well. Better MPG, security, no chance of playing ramrod with the garage.
Regarding the mount, I also have a QR mount on a 2x6, but I have gone to using two tie down straps (with front wheel off)on the handlebars.

Quick and easy, and no sliding around.
I fit my 56cm Wabi and 54cm Cross Check with no issues. I do have to tilt the bike sideways before putting it in there, but plenty of room. I also put my 29er in there so no issues with your bikes, length wise.

I have been using this Yakima Stick Up rack in a inexpensive hitch i bought off etrailer. I mostly use it for my MTB bikes because i refuse to put my muddy Niners inside my fit. Last couple trips to Vegas i have took my roadie inside my Fit, i just fold the magic seats up and remove the front wheel and set it standing up behind my seat going across. My frame is a 54 medium as well. Reason why i did it this way is well, i dont feel like walking through the casino floor with a bike and i def didnt want to leave it on the bike rack even locked up to it.
I never figured out a way to stop keep the board from sliding around in a way that I liked. To be honest, I'm not sure if I would want to.
Not having one location gives me options depending on how much crap I have in the car. I just slide the board around side-to-side and/or back-to-front as needed. Only issue is when it slides back and my brake hoods hit the window. Easy to fix by putting a small item between fork blades and rear.
