Smile Buying a Sport 07 (AT) with 125k miles. What do I need to know?

Hi there, I'm new here: buying a good 07 from a trusted seller who took it in for inspections every three months that have come back clear. The car spent a lot of time in the city, the bumper is dinged up and I'm sure a lot of those miles are city miles. I'm taking it out to the open highways where she'll be free and happy. I want this car to last me at least to 200k miles and beyond if possible. What do I need to know? In particular...
  • Anything in this car that I should check or keep an eye on?
  • Folks who've already gone through the 125-200k miles, how did it go?
  • Anything I should add/remove/mod right off the bat?
  • The only cosmetic damage is to the rear bumper, which is pretty bad. Any ideas on fixing that down the road?
  • I change my own oil, recommendations on filters/oils?
  • Any questions I'm not asking but should?

I'm at 115,000 miles on my 2007, so the mileage you report seems more than reasonable. I'm not sure what you mean by every 3 month inspections.
I would ask the owner if the coil packs, plugs have been changed and if the valves have been adjusted. Ask them whether the coolant and transmission fluid has been regularly changed. If the car has spent a lot of time in the city, ask them whether the struts and shocks have been updated. If you get a lot of "no" answers to these questions, you could be in for a whopper of a repair/maintenance bill. If these things were done, sit back and enjoy your care free ride to 200,000 + miles and beyond. It is tough to break a Fit.

So often, "complete maintenance" ends up to be oil changes only. Look for detailed checklists on the "inspections" as well as records of what service has been performed.

Both manual and ATF should have been replaced on a regular basis.

Coolant, too. And brake fluid (clutch fluid too, if MT).

Valves should have been adjusted. Engine and cabin filters should have been replaced several times. As well as spark plugs.

All recalls should have been performed. (If you have a VIN number, you can plug it into the Honda Ownerlink to see) Honda Owners Site | Tips, Tools & Benefits for Honda Owners

So BurntZ is correct, if not done yet, the period maintenance will cost a bit and the $$ should be part of the negotiations.

+++++++++++

Regards oil changes, I think that annual mileage will determine what type of oil to use. You can extend the oil change interval with a synthetic oil. We go 9 - 12K on our '07 Sport on synthetic. But you still need to do oil changes once a year.

We use Honda OEM filters (they are very reasonable in 6 packs from the online dealers). They are equivalent to a Fram ToughGuard (which will cost MORE than factory).

Suspension should be OK if stock.

Regards the bumper, best to have it inspected by a body shop. They may be able to repaint/refinish it. Otherwise, a new Honda OEM bumper sells for ~$170 USD (unpainted). That does NOT include the Sport body kit pieces along the bottom, which could be transferred to the new piece.

Front brake pads last about 80K for us. Rear shoes last a lot longer.

My 2007 has 150k miles on it and is running fine. All I've ever done is regular oil changes, i have done 2 transmission fluid changes since I have a 5-speed manual, I've changed the brakes once, and have not had an issue at all.

I got rear-ended a few weeks ago, and the impact felt like my car was going to be totaled/accordion crunched up, but when I got out of the car to look at it, you couldn't even tell it was hit. Seriously. There was a ding in my bumper.

These Fits will last forever, like Madonna.
