1 year and 2300 miles...

I bought my fit (base AT) in May 2006 and as of today I've put a whopping 2300 miles on it. Yeah, it's a cream puff. The only "maintenance" that's been done during this time has been to check the tire pressure regularly.

Do I need to change the oil or check/replace anything else on the car? Or should I just wait for the car to tell me what needs to be done? It's hard to believe that my oil won't need to be changed for about another 2 years (at the rate I'm putting miles on it).

What do you guys think? Thanks!

I think you should be driving your fit more often... I put 2300 miles on mine in the first 6 weeks I owned it, without even leaving the state.

LOL I just put 2600 miles on my fit in the first month Of course I was using the Fit to help me move from one city to another... but it was all within the state.

Heh, just for kicks I decided to calculate my average monthly mileage.

My car is 16 months old this week and has 43,000 miles on it.

That's an average of 2687.5 per month.

If you haven't had an oil change yet, do so right away. Driving a car less often is harder on it and dirt and oil can accumulate over time. Typically they give you mileage or time, whichever comes first. If I were you, I'd have it changed every 6 months.

Got my Fit on May 15th and just turned 1630 miles - I only live 2 1/2 miles from work and home - just can't keep it off the road on the weekends!

Cat :x

PS Was in front of my house washing it down tonight it was so hot but had to be done. Waited for the sun to set a little but humity is high! Two boys around 12 or 13 were riding their bikes down our street. They said that is the coolest car! I told them thanks and just smiled!

I agree. I'm surprised the oil minder doesn't account for time. I would think it would. Just curious, what is the oil life remaining percentage reading (press the odometer button until it cycles to "Oil Life Remaining")? If it's 60% or above, the minder is not accounting for time.

6 months and almost 24k miles on my fit... bought it with 4600 miles (technically used) and have put almost 20k miles on my fit and it hasn't seen the outside of the state.

Even if you're not putting a lot of miles on your Fit, you should definitely change the oil more frequently than once every couple of years. What does your "Maintenance Minder" read?

basic mechanic's rule of thumb for oil changes, every 3000miles or 3 months.

that is if the car is being driven every day

if the car is not driven every day, say less than 3000 miles a year, change the oil once a year.

Change the oil

If your car is only driven for short hops, say to church and the local video store, and it never has time to warm up and run at normal operating temp for a while, you should change the oil every 6 months even if it still looks new. The warm-engine running gets out the condensation (water) that develops in everything (including engines) as the outdoor temperature fluctuates.

To weigh in, my Fit is 5 months old and has over 16K now.

Just checking in...You definitely should change your oil if you're not driving it much. I've had mine since 12 March 2007, and I just turned 6000 miles (due to a couple of long distance work trips!); changed oil @ 5079 w/ 30% oil life remaining. I'm now using Castrol Syntec.

I've had my fit 'the short bus' for a full year now and have 27,000 miles. I'm sure I'll have it once it hits 250k. love the fit long time

Definately change the oil even if you haven't driven it that many miles. Too bad it's the break in oil, but you still need to change it now that it's a year old of oil in your pan..

The oil's at 60%. My dealer is offering a special with oil change, tire rotation, filter change, balance and other stuff, so I'm taking advantage of it.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I've gotta to do more weekend road trips! Love my Fit!
