Can the Fit hold 5 people w/o noise?

Hey guys I have a question.

Just bought an '08 Fit and soon after I bought it, I was rear-ended.

Took it in to replace the back right bumper. It was replaced but I am not sure they replaced it correctly.

In the days following, myself and 3 friends were riding in the car as well as a set of 4 wheels in the back. When we turned or went over bumps, the tire would come in contact with the wheel well and make an annoying (and in my opinion unnatural) noise.

Should I be able to comfortably fit five people in my 08 Fit without the wheel hitting the wheel well and making a noise? This is my first time in a Fit and so I don't know if this is normal or not. I'm used to a Toyota Tacoma that never had any carrying capacity issues.

Would love your guys' thoughts -- thanks in advanced.

How heavy are the people? How many miles? Stock wheels/tires?

That's a lot of weight for a fit, the owners manual states the max load of people and cargo and its not very much from what I recall its around the 600lb mark.

Stock tires and http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...ent&tab=wheels wheels plus the stock wheels and winter tires in the back

The people were 210, 185, 160 and 175

Are you sure on this?

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If it's normal for 75+% of us then I can't really complain..but if other people haven't experienced problems like this I'd love to know.

Thanks guys

That is a lot of weight in a Fit, when the Mrs. and I moved we loaded her car up and she rubbed when she hit large enough bumps/dips.

I've loaded 12-14 Bags of Pellets, plus my Son and myself and while I take it easy heading home I've never hit the inner wheel well on the Fit. A lot of it will depend on the wheels and tires. What's the offset on the wheel? The more you push out (or pull in) the wheel, the closer you get to the inside or outside edges of the wheel well. Also, how wide are your tires? the Fit I think had 185 or 175 width tires stock. if you are running 205 or 215, you have a wider tire than stock (again, moving you closer to the edges of the wheel well). Combine the two and you get even closer. Lower the car at all and again... closer.

You were pushing 900lbs in the car with 140lbs at the very back of the car. Add the two heavier people to the back seats and you are moving most of the weight backwards.

Depending on the wheels and tires you have, and how far off from stock they are, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some rubbing. If everything is stock dimensions, I'd say something isn't right as I didn't think the tires were supposed to rub at all. you'd be riding rough as you'd be hitting the bump-stops on most bumps but it shouldn't rub (again, if totally stock sizes on everything).

Brought a front-load washing machine home in the back of the fit with a 150lb passenger on stock suspension with no noise. I did this 3 times & the last I was running stock suspension but had upgraded to 205 tires. I think you shouldn't be rubbing.

For reference, that's about 250lbs in the Rear of the vehicle which shouldn't be an issue at all, especially since the majority of it is distributed forward of the rear wheels. The OP was probably close to double that with 450lbs or more in the rear of the vehicle. (including more weight towards the back - At or behind the rear wheels). I'm running 205's as well on the stock GE Sport wheels and have not had rubbing issues with close to what the OP had in their FIT... BUT, if the OP has 205's, and an offset on the aftermarket wheel that is a bit off from stock, Adding that amount of extra weight gives it greater potential to rub.

Also of note, It's a GD Fit and Not a GE as I believe they said it was a 2008 and not a '09-'14

We'll see if the OP has any additional info on the wheels and Tires that might help.

Thanks for the correction. Thats what I get for 1/2 reading & posting on my lunch. In my defense, this is posted in the ge section.

No worries.... The GE Section is weird on here. It's listed as2nd GEN GE 2008-2013. GE was sold in Japan as a 2008 model so like most people, I'm guessing the OP is more familiar with their year than the Chassis Code for the Vehicle. They fall in that one year where they aren't necessarily sure where to post: "I know I have a 2008, so I must have a GE... whatever GE means"

It's a Catch 22. They probably should have listed 2009-13 but then there would be posts in the 1st gen forum about the GE from those overseas.

The most weight I have put in my '12 Sport is around 850lbs. That was 4 people plus stuff on a short road trip last spring, driven on a flat stretch of road. It was actually quieter than usual because of the car being full of people and stuff. Only thing i noticed driving if most of the way was that it revved a little higher than normal at speed, but the A/C was on too. It did ok otherwise.

I've loaded it about 750lbs moving across the nation. It did fine, BUT it wasn't the most peppy nor did it handle that great. I can see with another 200 lbs that issues might ensue.
