Bigger Meet!

I am just curious and wondering if there will be any bigger meets like in central CA where both North CA and South CA come together for a huge event. I know it would difficult to put together but it would be a pretty sweet to have a bigger group of family FITS together.

It isnt too late since we have like about half a year to plan everything before summer comes around to have this bigger meet.

There was talk about this recently, it sounds like a great idea..But when you really start to think about all the planning and such it really starts to sound a little bit crazy lol.!

I would be down to go(ill go to any fitfreak meet), but when it comes to being one of the planners count me out...

I was shocked at the turnout of our last meet, and 20 sounds like a definite possiblity for our Nor Cal meet in spring! But 25 is a goal we can shoot for!

I was actually thinking of you to kinda host it and maybe talk to JDMchris since he is from the SOCAL and since the both of you are the moderators then it only seems right. i think all of us would agree that you are qualified enough to plan something like this out.

Ok no probs, that makes sense..Ill talk to him and get back to you..
For now, lets see how many Nor Cal Fits are intrested in this idea..

So far me and BC are wanting to do something like this, anyone else?
We would nedd at least 16 or something around there for this to be worth it.

A combined AllCal Fit Meet would require the efforts of a lot of people, and would require an overnight stay for most of the attendees. In the thread where this was previously discussed, "macbuddy" suggested Harris Ranch in the Central Valley (I forget which town), but it is right next to I-5. Great food (they supply top quality beef to markets like Nob Hill, Raley's, etc., and there is a motel associated with the restaurant, and LOTS of parking area. But there is nothing interesting about the surrounding landscape or roads. That's the problem with almost any place located between "us" and "them". Lots of nice eating and sleeping places, but mostly flat ground.

Most of the people who attend Fit Meets consider their cars as more than just a means to get from here to there- we enjoy putting the car through its best capabilities. So if we all have a fairly interesting meeting site with the expense of money and time for an overnight stay and several meals, most people will want more than a boring drive to go with it.

Very good points brought up Dave..But why over nite? It takes what, 5 hours to get to L.A, so i would think 3 or 4 to get to a central location..Leave at say 7am, get there at 10:30ishAM and leave at 4 or 5 and be back at home 7 or 8? Sounds possible to me?

That's correct for you and me. What about people from Sacramento, Roseville, Palmdale, Riverside or San Diego?

I have to revise my previous agreement about 5 hours to LA. LA isn't a street corner. You might possibly drive from here to the Northern edge of LA County in 5 hours, but only between midnight and 5:00 a.m.

On road trips, it's almost impossible to exceed an average speed of 50 mph during daylight hours due to traffic, pee stops, coffee stops, and gas station needs. I have driven from here to Southeast LA County (San Gabriel Valley) hundreds of times. Not once in 5 hours.

Thanks for setting the record straight Tetsurin. I did however mention that if we do the Harris Ranch ride that I would inquire about meal discounts, as I have had previous contact with Harris Ranch Reps.

I think a huge state-wide meet would be pretty cool too, but it would take a lot of effort. I've gone down to So Cal plenty of times for meets (I'm originally from LA) and have stayed overnight just because so much driving can really make you tired. The problem with having so many cars is that you usually have to get permission of the person/company/etc. that owns the parking lot. A lot of times places don't want the liability of irresponsible, immature people trying to show off by peeling out, doing donuts, etc. and wrecking into their property. I once went to a meet here in the Bay Area (back when I was living in the Sac area) and it had hundreds of cars. The people who arranged it had to get permission from the company's parking lot that it was set in. It was really fun, but because there were *soo* many cars and people, we couldn't do anything but just park and walk around and look at everyone's cars, which is ok for a few hours, but I don't know if it is worth driving 4-5 hours just to get there. It also makes it near impossible to get photos of the whole group, and most people just stayed within their own cliques because there were just so many people there that it was hard to meet and remember everyone.

Harris Ranch is a good central spot, but there's nothing but cows for a backdrop, and I wouldn't want to be outside too long because it stinks if the wind is blowing in your direction!

Nonetheless, if people were to take on this huge endeavor and arrange it, I'd most likely be there.

Of course I would go-- and MRsunrise's post added more detail to my reasons for post #7.
Sorry to have misremembered who had your good idea Tetsurin- It was "macbuddy's" reply to it that made me remember his old post.

YAY sounds like this is going to come together nicely. i know it would take a lot of effort that is why posted a thread early. having the meet in central CA does sound like a long trip but how often is there going to be an event this huge, with something this huge i want to be a part of it.

I would like to help in helping organize this so just let me know what i can do.
