Window Tint

hey everyone,
Im looking at tinting my windows now and need some input on where you guys went and how much. I know that you pay for what you get for but when it comes to window tint i know that many places have a lifetime warrantee so if it starts to bubble, crack, or peel then they should fix or repair it. I also prefer shops towards the south bay since i live in sunnyvale and work in mountian view.
Thanks

damn that is HELLA cheap! how many windows?

I got mine done at Omega Tintwerks in Pleasanton. He did a very good job, tinted with taking off any panels. If u google Omega tintwerks, he gets plenty of good reviews, normally doing high-end cars. I paid 240 for the nine windows, which i think was a good deal. Only prob is that its quite a bit of a drive to get there

wanna swap cars? I pick it up at your work place, you take mine, and I get your windows tinted?

Sound like a deal?

I'll get the guy to give me a confirmation/quote tomorrow while I'm at my old apartment place, since I need to go talk to my old landlord.

You guys got a really good deal on your window tint. I paid $300 to tint all my window @ Auto mall tint specialist on Auto mall Parkway in Fremont. (Auto Mall Tint Specialist - Professional Window Tinting. In Fremont, California.) But they did a really good job on my windows and used high quality film.

The guy at Omega seems like a jackass. Ive called him for my old rsx and my fit now, hes really rude to me and tries to jack up his price after i told him people got it for $240 from you. Anyways I havnt gotten my fit tinted yet, dont have cash, but i got my rsx done in Vallejo, place called Super Shades, super cool guys. Got it done for 150, but ive taken like 5 cars to them already so they hook me up.

Where ever you get it tinted, here are some things to remember:

Ask them who is giving the lifetime warranty: them or the manufacturer of the film.

Tons of cheapo places will say they give a lifetime warranty and use a generic Autozone tint and either hope you never come back, you sell the car before you have a problem, or they go out of business and you're stuck swingin'.

Reputable places will use high end film and the manufacturer will give the warranty, which is what you want. They often will be nationwide warranties which are great if you ever move out of state. Any and all of the companies who make high end film give extensive warranty paperwork, so don't accept just the receipt as your warranty. And they should provide you with the serial numbers for the rolls they used on your car. That's right. High end window film always has a serial number on each and every roll, just like a VIN on a car.

And just because they say they use Llumar, 3M, Solar Guard, or other film, ask which model or grade. Even the best companies make cheap film. Make sure you get the high end grade. Insist on it. Request a metalized film. They are lightyears ahead of the old dyed window films and will never turn purple, delaminate (bubble up), craze, haze, or fade like dyed films will.

Also ask if they computer cut their patterns. Today, any decent window tinter uses a computer aided machine to cut precision patterns that ensure precise straight edges that are exact to your windows. No more razer blades cutting on your windows.

Thank you Sid for your helpful info.

I am looking at getting my windows done but I don't have time to drive out to the East Bay. I looked at this place which quoted me $225 for 3 rear windows and 2 quarters:

http://www.californiaautotinting.com/page3.html

They use a mylar based tint but can't remember which brand. You drop the car off there for the whole day but once you get it back, you can roll the windows as normal as they do all the baking and curing etc. on site.

Auto Mall tint specialist has Huper Optik and the other fancier films, but they're in Fremont:

Auto Mall Tint Specialist - Professional Window Tinting. In Fremont, California.

$230 for Suntek metallic film. About 2x for Huper Optik and somewhere in between for V-Kool.
