Good Morning!!! everyone just got back from my morning swim and run!!! It clearing up!!!!
The latest new on the fires in OC/Riverside...The fire, which eventually prompted as many as 40,000 evacuations in three counties, had several active fronts early Sunday -- including the edges of Chino Hills and around Carbon Canyon's Olinda Village area, where several structures burned and many others were being threatened.
Fire officials urged people who see flames advancing on their homes to go ahead and evacuate without waiting for official orders.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Orange and Riverside counties, as he did earlier today with Los Angeles County because of the Sayre Fire in the Sylmar area and before that, in Santa Barbara County because of the Tea Fire in Montecito.
The fire, which has burned more than 7,300 acres since starting amid Santa Ana conditions about 9 a.m. Saturday, was aonly about five-percent contained as of Sunday morning.
More hot, dry weather is expected today. The relative humidity is expected to dip below 10 percent at times, and inland temperatures are forecast to push well into the 90s.
Winds early today were relatively light compared to sustained winds around 30 mph Saturday. A few gusts hit 60 mph in the Anaheim Hills.
About 70 homes were lost in Yorba Linda, including at least 15 multimillion-dollar homes in a Yorba Linda hilltop community bordering Chino Hills State Park, which went up in flames along Blue Ridge Drive, Merryweather Circle, Camino de Bryant and Big Horn Mountain Way.
``We just started losing homes. We didn't have enough units,'' said Mickey Hansen, a safety officer with the Orange County Fire Authority. ``There were just so many fires. There wasn't enough (resources) to go around.''
In the afternoon, a pump in the Yorba Linda Water District system broke. A replacement was found in Laguna Beach but, even with the repair, the water system couldn't handle the blaze. The problem was especially evident in the uppermost reaches of Yorba Linda, in Hidden Hills Estate.
The water was coming with too little force and was also undrinkable. District officials advised residents to boil their water or mix it with a few drops of bleach.
At least 10 homes and 10 apartment buildings, comprising 50 units, were lost in Anaheim Hills, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
In Corona, as many as 600 homes were evacuated Saturday morning, but most residents were allowed to go home by nightfall. At least 15 home in the Dean Homes neighborhood of Corona were destroyed. In Corona, a total of 16 homes were believed to have been lost.
About 4,500 homes were evacuated in Anaheim and in other Orange County areas.
As thousands fled their homes, the freeways were clogged with traffic and blanketed with smoke. The fires forced the closure of the 91 freeway in both directions between the 55 freeway and the county's border with Corona.
Firefighting aircraft were grounded at sundown, and ground crews moved into defensive positions around homes, while hand crews set back fires and worked to create fire breaks. But the air assault was beginning early Sunday.
The Travis Ranch Activity Center, the Yorba Linda Community Center, the Brea Community Center and Valencia High in Placentia also were opened as evacuation centers. In Anaheim, evacuation centers were opened at Anaheim, Katella and Loara high schools.
At least 1,500 firefighters were assigned to the blaze, which cast an ashen pall over the region stretching all the way to the coast. The point of origin was in the Santa Ana riverbed, near the base of Prado Dam, said Corona Mayor Pro Tem Steve Nolan. The cause was unknown.
The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning, signifying high fire danger, through 4 p.m. Sunday.
