I really don't want to be the one to say it but there's no way that was an 80mph collision.

I'm sure your wife had a rougher impact than I did because it looks like the car made solid contact with the rear bumper. When I got hit from behind, though, in a GD, they overcut the rear bumper and so my whole hatch was crunched in. That impact was only around 45mph, but it was a Ford Econoline. I have heard the structural rigidity has been improved on the new Fits, if the speed of that impact was anywhere near what the CHP said it was then it's been improved by a hell of a lot.

I remember when I first saw the car and thinking ok at least she didn't get hit that hard. I talked to the investigators and they are the one's that told me it was 80mph. If that is/were true then the Fit has got to be the safest damn thing I've ever seen. Regardless of speed I'm just glad the car took the impact like a champ. I will say though after everything I won't be making fun of Little cars anymore.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be rude to your wife but I think it's pretty silly to be wanting a different car after the Fit took care of her so well. But I'm biased cause it hurts the FF in me and especially since I had a Fit totaled by being rear-ended and I came away definitely wanting another Fit because it took care of me so well. Anyway, good luck with everything!

Glad she's OK. I don't blame her for not wanting the car. After my wife's brother was t-boned in his Civic he switched to a Subi. He still won't make left turns at the intersection where he was hit.
