Honda Canada $1,000 rebate
Retroactive to March 20, 2007, Honda announces a $1,000 rebate for Fit and Civic buyers. In response to the stupid rebate from the Can. gov't. that excluded the Fit.

1.
operative with respect to past occurrences, as a statute; retrospective: a retroactive law. 2.pertaining to a pay raise effective as of a past date.
Sweeeeeeet...so I guess ALL of us get that rebate? They did include 06 Civics, and I doubt they are still selling them unless they are at a discounted price now that all of the 07's are out...
EDIT:
As quoted from the site:
"Honda's counterattack: the Honda Benefit, a $1,000 incentive for everyone who purchases or leases a manual or automatic 2007 Fit, or a 2006 or 2007 manual Civic. The Civic Si Coupe is excluded. The rebate also applies retroactively to March 20th, 2007, so those who bought one of the models mentioned above will also take advantage from the Honda Benefit."
"Getting the rebate is easy: if you've already purchased a qualifying vehicle (March 20th or earlier), just contact your dealer, and Honda will promptly mail you a cheque. Future buyers will get the rebate at the time of purchase or lease."
What do you guys think? I don't think my English is bad at all, and my interpretation is that ANY 06 or 07 Civic (except Si) and ANY Fit purchased qualifies. Someone please confirm I'm not retarded or am misreading this...otherwise I'm going to be calling into my dealer and asking for my rebate!
The only part of that article that makes me look twice is when they say "rebate also applies retroactively to March 20th, 2007" which sounds like it only goes back TO that date and not prior...unless they are only talking about people who recently bought one...maybe all of us who purchased earlier will get the rebate ONLY if we call in...

I bought mine when it first came out in April 06...YeeFit, how do you interpret the article?
Nevermind, the more I read it, the more it sounds like the rebate applies to any vehicle purchased on or after March 20...and does not apply to anyone who purchased earlier as that is when the rebate was first introduced.

The "or earlier" in that article is wrong. It is retroactive to March 20th. So if you bought on or after March 20th (like me...joy!) you should recieve a cheque. How very sweet. A nice reward for buying the Fit over the Yaris. Oddly I doubt I would have paid what I did had the rebate already been in place. I also suspect the few available Fit's will now again fly out the door in Canada.

In terms of "Retroactive" - Any 2006-2007 Honda Civic Manual or 2007 Honda Fit purchased on March 20th and after are eligible for the $1000 rebate. They are countering the ecoFit government rebate that kicked in on March 20th. I can ask Crowfoot honda today when I go there to see how it is applied and if possibly all Fits apply, but I would not assume that it would.

Here's another article! TheStar.com - Business - Honda challenges green rebate
It's a little more thorough. I think if the government decides to accept the Honda Fit as part of the EcoFit rebate program then all Honda Fits will qualify correct?

Nope. This was an incentive introduced in Canada during our last budget where our government was offering $1000-$2500 rebates for fuel efficient cars. This is Honda's retaliation for being omitted from the list by less than 0.2L/100km...

Yes you get to buy the car for substantially less than us Canadians pay, even with the rebate, if today's exchange rate was actually applied. So no whining allowed.

But in your case, if you know your dealer, I would at least ask if they can
bend the rules a little, maybe a sliding scale or some goodies for free. If they want your business they may be open to suggestions.
It doesn't hurt to ask.
Cold 493; This is a question for Honda Canada. No one here could answer that.
I heard that they are running full page ads this weekend about the rebates.
