Smile Fit Coming to Canada!

I am happy to hear that the Fit is coming to Canada. It is overdue, especially with gasoline prices now topping the $1.00 per liter mark. There are thousands of commuters in the Greater Toronto area who could really benefit from having the option to buy a Honda Fit. I will definitely purchase one as soon as possible. I also wish that Honda would reconsider and think about making diesel engines available in Canada. The diesel Jetta sells very well in my area.

I'd go a lot further than that, proportionate to population, I'm willing to lay odds that the Jazz/Fit will sell better in Canada than in the States. Reasons, gas is higher here & we don't tend to spend as much on vehicles among others. There is a reason Toyota brought the Echo Hatchback to Canada and not the US, ditto for Benz and the Smart Car. Both are sales hits.

Canadians buy more hatchbacks per capita then any other country in the world, and that's a fact.

I'll have to agree with the replies here. Canadians are pretty hot on hatchbacks and smaller sized cars.....You seem to have been around in this forum from what I've read. I'm thinking of either the Honda Fit or the new Toyota Echo hatchback....any thoughts on which is better????? My first choice would be the diesel Mini (I think called Mini-one) but they're not sold here......Perhaps in the future.....What type of real world comparisons do you know about the Fit & Echo in terms of performance, utility & mileage?????

Which generation?

I am worried though that the new Echo will outclass the present fit, so Honda desperately needs to send the next gen here. I was at the Georgian college auto show and saw the new Echo and I believe the inside is much nicer in the Echo than the current fit. The car is, I would say, more up to date than the fit. So, I'm wondering what Honda will do...
Does anyone know which gen of the fit will arrive in Canada and the states in the Spring of 2006?

New Echo? You mean the Yaris, right? I was at the dealer today and they confirmed the Fit will be here in the spring, and it will be called the Fit. The sales guys were told by Honda that with the new Civic, they will have the Fit in the showroom this spring.

BTW, the new Civic starts for a barebone DX at $18,200. $2000 more that last year. All civics come with side airbags and ABS. Hence the $2000 price increase....the Civic coupe it bitchin' hawt.

Funny, honda.ca says $16,800 for the DX. Dealer must of added a bunch of crap to the car. Like coating and junk.

The new yaris is out now. Looks to be in the same line of styling as the Fit. Comes with a 1.5L. Auto or 5 speed. No cvt.

Stoped in at my local Toyota dealer to check out the Yaris. Wow, nice little car. Makes me want to see the Fit even more. Love the front end on the Yaris.

Too bad the USA won't have the yaris till 2007, or so it seems.

I was at a Honda dealer yesterday and he said he didn't know anything about the Fit. Either he can't say anything "officially", or he doesn't know much about his products!

We need the Fit here SOON. When gas went over $1.00 a litre, people became more concerned about fuel economy. The new Civic is really nice, but if the Fit is alot cheaper, I'm trading my '04 SI for one of those!
