Damn those plates are pricey!!!! In Ontario, plates cost 20$ (or more for personalized plates), and 75$ for yearly registration. Our drivers license costs 75$ and is valid for 5 years.

What trim level and transmission did you get?

You pay $75 for your drivers and that is good for 5 years? Damn, in Manitoba I pay $60 a year for my drivers, and that's with a merit discount.

What is all this plates cost talk? out plates cost $7. But you have to insure your car to drive it here.

That's why it is hard to compare ins., even between provinces. Our driver's lic. insures us in diff. ways and diff. areas, I think. When they started Autopac, I asked for a written policy, never got one to this day.
The only time you find out what's not covered is after an accident.

Try and figure out B.C. Autoplan, including something about clean air testing.

I know someone in Vancouver, BC paying for $2300 with 25% discount, no accident, not N. That's still quite a bit. I have a Acura TSX, with 40%, no accident, not N..also brand new, paying at $2200...interesting.

In Victoria, My wife is insured on our Fit:

$2,000,00 Third Party,
$500 Collision deductible
$200 Comprehensive deductible
Replacement Cost Coverage

1910 a year after a 5% discount. She should actually get a higher discount (been driving almost 8 years without a claim), but we come from Alberta and the insurance company over there wasn't able to forward us acceptable documents to prove she was driving .

In Ontario, 5km to work, with one at-fault paint-scratcher (no fenders were actually bent ) a few years ago, approximately $1150. This compares to $1050 for my old car ('93 Colt); I guess the safety features make up for the difference in book value, which for the Colt is probably actually negative by now.

Saskatchewan

We are in Saskatchewan, and through SGI we pay about $90/month. That covers basic accident and vandalism with a $700 deductible and $200,000 liablility. We pay an extra $15/month to an insurance broker for a package policy that covers windshield damage repair/replacement, $2,000,000 liability, and $100 deductible for accident/theft/vandalism. The car is in my name and I have a perfect driving record so there is a 7% discount.

Sorry to bump this thread, but had to chime in here for info purposes.

I'm 29, single, living in Ontario, clean record. I'm currently paying $1970 per year for my insurance. $1mil third party, $1000 deductible. Pretty high. I'll be trying PC insurance after my year is up.

Wow i think i pay the most of anyone on this board

21, male, ontario... 3600 a year. Under my parents policy. And my parents live in the damn middle of nowhere.

My 99 civic cost 3000 a year... no accidents, no tickets, had a licence since i was 17, but wasnt insured until i bought my own car when i was 19.

If i go and get my G licence my insurance will go back down to 3000! what an incentive... and then i save 10% every 5 years!! (Provided i dont get ANY tickets or have any claims ever... )

So by the time im too old to drive ill be paying what people in quebec are paying....

I like to blame my mom for it though, since she has a terrible driving record, and i have to be on her policy. Not because she pays for it or anything, but because if i try and get my own policy, they will want proof of address and ill end up paying the same or probably even more since insurance in Toronto is ridiculously expensive (One quote on my old 92 sentra was 600 a month for JUST liability....). So i think they look at her record, multiple single vehicle accidents, average of 2 speeding tickets a year, and then slam me with a crap rate. None of my friends pay this much, but i cant get a lower rate even if i shop around by myself.

I'm paying $2100 for the Fit Sport Manual with 10% discount cause my apt is insured with the same company.

25yrs old, squeaky clean record
$500 deductible
$2 million third-party liability
Replacement coverage for 2 yrs
Only 10km to work and back

I shopped around for weeks, but staying with the same company was cheaper.
