Did anyone in Canada get a locking gas cap?

we don't usually have issues with people adding things here. Had attempts at stealing the other honda. but not the fit. course the neighbor aquired a mastiff and it's decided that my place is also HIS place. (along with her medium poodles.) to deter even the most intrepid thief. grin.

so u just buy the element gas cap alone from the dealer and rekey it from a local locksmith store to able to use fit key?

It comes with its own key, so no need to rekey it (if you don't mind having one more car related key)

I hate having an extra key just to open the gas cap on my key chain. No way I'd leave the key in the car, I could see it disappear at the worst moment.

Bought my 5AT Sport model on Aug. 1 (35,600 Km since then ), my only issue was with the freaking gas cap, I was used with the Civic-style, all done remotely, from inside your car as most of the today's vehicles are built, I firstly went to the Sorbonne-educated people of the flagship Canadian Tire, "NOOOOOOOOOOO, YOU have to wait for at least one year until a cap with key for your car comes out on the market" , then I went to the very little AutoParts/PartSource store in my area, their logo is a red sign with a large checkered flag like AutoZone in the States, and a very young Yahoo guy (but with no foreign accent) sold me an after-market cap (C$20 plus local tax), told to try it out and if not working (getting the engine-check light off) just return it and get my money back... that was on Aug.10 and the rest is just history...

i tried both the canadian tire one (motorad brand) and the FJ cruiser one
the FJ one is definitely more solid
the canadian tire one looks cheap and like a toy..
and besides, theres only a $2 difference..
i kept the FJ one and returned the motorad one

Could you tell me where did you get the FJ cruiser gas locking cap?

I'm pretty sure you can walk into any Toyota dealership and get one. They should have them in stock...but then you'd be defiling your Fit by using Toyota parts lol

Dood, you overpaid for the Element cap...buy another one from another dealer that gives you the actual price and return that one to the guys you bought your first one from

Different gas cap locking mechanism
Hello from Jolly old England,
I've just stripped... my donor Honda Fit not myself obviously and the point is this when removing the gas(petrol) flap and associated parts I discovered that the GD5 model I was stripping was different from mmy GD1 that I run. The petrol cap isn't lockable instead there is a wired mechanism thatlocks the flap and prevents access maybe you guys would be interested in this as you only really need the petrol access locking when you are locking up the whole car it's not as if someone steals your petrol whilst you are driving and it would still be tricky to do if you were stuck in traffic. The best part is it's keyless entry and no re-keying is needed.
Will Post a pic later til then have fun and stay Fit##

I picked mine up from Garage Five in Richmond. They had a bunch in stock. I was too lazy and cheap to get mine re key'd so I have an extra key on my ring. But I think I only paid like $40 for it. That cable thing was a bit of a bitch to get off.
