Figured I'd create my own thread dedicated to the trials and tribulations of autocrossing/road racing, and my 2008 Honda Fit Sport 5 speed, FITRARI.

This is actually my second Fit since November of 2007, as I slid on ice with the first one and met a telephone pole. Traded that one in on a new red one March 1st of this year...red is much more 'FIT'ting anyway with regards to the license plate. My girlfriend actually came up that plate.

Anyways, I've been autocrossing on and off for roughly four years, with last year being my first full year in two different clubs, and I participated in five clubs altogether throughout the region.

My first semi-autocross stint came way of the National Rev It Up competition in 2003, when Mazda was giving away a Mazda 6. I was pessimistic at first...who knew driving through a sea of cones could be so much fun! I was hooked.

Enter 2004, Mazda now was giving away a Mazda 3, and a second chance at an autocross. Basically I drove to Philadelphia, placed 25th out of 24000 people nationally, which was good enough to win a chance to compete against 19 other participants at Laguna Seca, where I finished 13th, only after spinning an RX8 entering a slalom, which just blew my chances. After that whole experience, I knew I had what it takes to really do something with this sport.

So here I am this year, with a newfound appreciation for racing on a budget, because the Fit IS a fun car to do it in, and running H-Stock, isn't going to cost a whole hell of a lot. I've run six events already with only Azenis RT615s, with the last two using factory camber bolts and a way-off alignment. I finally received two fresh V710s to run up front temporarily and I have strong faith that they are going to help chop my times down tremendously. I will keep an updated list of my SCCA results below, along with the mods/tires used.

Damn, I was expecting your Fit to be sporting a 599 front end or something hahahaha

This was at Englishtown wasn't it? Hope to see you there next weekend. I'm a novice and use my impreza for auto-x. Its awesome to see what the Fit is capable of. I have a Base '08.

My friend actually mentioned your car and how you performed amazingly.

 

Thanks for the compliments Cessna. Yeah, I'm at ETown and Giant's Stadium regularly, but also do Porsche Club events, Philly Region SCCA and South Jersey SCCA events. Hopefully see you out there soon!

With last weekend's event being cancelled due to the expectation of inclement weather, there is nothing much to report right now. Got an alignment so my front wheels are pointed straight(yay!) and I also installed a muffler delete pipe which sounds awesome! Nine bucks, and an hour's time at work- JDM fanbois eat your heart out. Kept the OEM turn down and placement.

 

Like the pipe. If you wanted to make up another and sell it as a bolt-on for a reasonable price, I'd buy one. Seriously. Does it reduce the loud raspy sound at around 2,500 rpm that I get with the muffler off?

 

To tell you the truth, I was pleasantly suprised how this was the first naturally-aspirated Honda that DOES NOT sound like a raspy, fart can. There is some 'booming' at around 3000rpm or so, but that's to be expected while running only a resonator for noise suppression. It is very tolerable though!

I'd love to take you up on that offer to build one, but I'd need your stock muffler flange and tip, and the time...lol.

I agree, and I was also surprised how pleasant the sound was w/o the muffler. But there is still a narrow raspy band around 2,500 rpm that I didn't find tolerable for daily driving. And I won't even tell you what my wife thought! Let's just say that threats were made if I didn't put the muffler back on, pronto. So now I only remove it for races, which takes me all of about 5 mins.

well going to do the same thing. i like how it sounds. way better then when i had my buddyclub catback on!


and the thing is im running the hks super drager axle back. but when i took it off, i noticed a huge gain in power. like it pulls way harder.

Ran the V710s up front yesterday. It feels damn good to have the car go where you point it now(our lot surfaces are old and gritty). I still have yet to find how far I can push these tires as tire roll over was non-evident. Rest assured, a huge amount of terminal understeer and wheelspin has been eliminated.

Strut/shock changes are next.
