Creaking from front-left wheel - 2009 Fit Sport

My 2009 sport (104k miles) has recently started making a sharp creaking noise (I would describe it as similar to the sound of an old creaky door, but faster), coming from the driver-front wheel area. I've found similar complaints on this forum but those were specific to cold temperatures. My issue doesn't seem to be temperature-sensitive.

I've had it happen in 3 ways:
  • When turning hard to either side while reversing, say when reversing from a parking spot
  • If I'm driving slow, say around 15mph, and then brake firmly. It then often also creaks when I set off again. But if I braked gently, it doesn't do it.
  • When going over a speed bump, but it's only happened this way once or twice.
I brought it in to my local garage twice and the issue still persists. First they found that the driver-front wheel was a little bent, so they moved it to the rear but it didn't help Then they replaced the control arm, but the noise persists.

Any ideas?

The rubber perch that the strut mounts to the top of the shock tower with can perish and become brittle. I get a little squeak when it's cold going over speed bumps from mine
