Switching to Synthetic ....
I just bought a 2009 Fit 124k miles. No idea what the former owner ran in it for oil. If they ran dino oil is there any risk of me switching over to synthetic? Some say the "leak" thing is BS but I have no personal experience with that .. Thanks, Joe.
Zero risk. Viscosity changes are more likely to cause an issue than oil type change and even that's not likely to make a difference.
The myth comes from people changing oil on high mile cars and getting leaks. Reality is that eventually all gaskets/seals fail and it was just time.
I switched a 100k mile Crown Vic over to full synthetic with no leak issues. Ran it 40k or so before trading it in.

I was told by a mechanic that synthetic oil should be the only oil used... if I recall correctly, the stock oil fill cap has "Synthetic Oil" printed on it. Maybe someone replaced the OP's cap with a 'performance' oil fill cap. :-)
