Ask the dealer not to "prep" wash the car?

So if all goes as planned I'll be picking up an 08 vbp mt sport this coming weekend or next hopefully. Before it comes in, after reading through quite a few of the problematic paint threads here I'm a little worried about the dealer prepping the car lol. Or in some light has honda done better with the 08' fits compared to the 07's? Iono, I just don't want the paint to be screwed when I leave...I will look over the car like a madman though fer' sure before taking ownership to check for near anything that may/could get fixed that day n' stuff

I think it depends on the dealer or how the cleaning technician feels that day.

i just got my 08' fit and just washed and waxed today. The paint is perfect, except for two small clear coat dots.

I personally would let the dealer do what they usually do.

My local dealership did a great job in detailing my car - it looked picture perfect. The swirls did not happen until I made the mistake of taking it through the hand wash places during winter weather - never again!

Really sucks though... nothing you can do to prevent it...cept not wash it lol, but then there's other problems. But alright, I'll just leave em to do whatever prep they usually do. Hopefully I'll be able to get some free wheel locks or a a locking gas cap lol.

either way, jap paint is soft an easily scratched or swirls.. tho the gd side is these defects can b easily corrected becos the paint is soft.. if they use a car wash machine then i wud rather do it myself, if hand prep then it shud b fine...

Let them do it, if you take the car off the lot and notice scratchs, and other paint improfections later them might tell you to get lost since you have already take the car off the lot.

i'm a lot attendant at a honda dealership and basically this is how we wash a car

1) get a call from the receptionist that theres a sold car
2) pick up keys
3) go get gas if necessary
4) run it through our car wash
5) dry the car / spray windex type liquid on windows / tire shine
6) vacuum / put mats into place
7) double check for damage
8) drive it out of the wash bay to delievery area

and we use NON-microfiber towels that have been reused countless times, and they're pretty much just like ordinary towels from walmart

my job is to get them presentable but not perfectly detailed quality

some 08's already have swirl marks on them from all the times we washed them before getting sold and theres really nothing we can do due to the lack of funds for microfiber towels and also, swirl marks are bound to happen

Mine had 3 miles on it and all the plastic bags. They washed it for me and I don't have any swirls. Now I use one of those shammy towels and just use soap from the kitchen to get nasties (bird crap, etc.).
