Fit 2002 climate control - no auto AC?

Hi,

I have a 2002 Fit Vtec, and it also has the Climate Control/AAC. For those who dont know, this has the same three dials as non AAC, but they have AUTO settings, and temperature setting on the rightmost one. (18deg..32)
This is not the same as the later Jazz/Fit's that have a digital readout.

The problem that I am having is that it doesnt seem to be able to switch on (or off) the aircon by itself, even if you put both dials on AUTO, and put the temp to 18deg.
However, if I put the fan to 'windscreen demist' the aircon comes on by itself - so it can be controlled.
I bought the Jazz manual, but it is very vague on this.
Every other car that I have had with climate control can turn on the AC if necessary.
Does anybody else have this system, and what does yours do?

Thanks,

VTEC.

Personally, I don't care for any kind of automated climate control. The best are totally manual, with a separate button for turning on the aircon. I don't even like it when they link the aircon with the defrost mode. On warm and humid days, you end up cooling the windshield so much that condensation forms on the outside, and you have to use your wipers to get rid of it.

Can the defroster auto AC function be "reprogramed" on the Fit? I know it can on Civic's and CRV's...bummer if you can't shut it off:-(

The Jazz I rented in Bangkok appeared to have a completely manual system. I don't know what they are going to be offering in the states, but it will definitely be different than what is here, because Thailand Jazzes (as with most cars here) don't have heaters. The only people who say, "it's Africa hot," have never been to Bangkok.

Hi,
No, I dont believe the defroster function can be disabled.

I was wondering if climate control keeps the AC LED on, but actually turns off the compressor. I will have to have a look at what it does.
