High revs (1.5 to 2K) on start up

I have a brand new Jazz auto 1.4 DSi. When starting it first thing in the morning the revs seem to be high at around 1.5. When I put it in drive the car is really 'creeping' fast before I even touch the gas pedal. After a few mins in seems to settle to under 1K revs when I'm stationery.

Is this normal and will it sort itself out in time? It there something I can try before going back to dealership? Thanks.

Sounds normal. An engine idles higher when cold to speed up the warming process.

I have a late 2004 1.4i-DSI CVT Auto as well and mine is exactly the same, just for the first couple of minutes from a cold start. Just a characteristic of the way a cold engine is fuelled by the ECU during the warm up cycle. Personally I find that selecting S-econd rather than D-rive is more comfortable when setting off with a cold engine as the gear ratio is lower and it saves using the brakes so much!

Yeah that's fine nothing to worry about. The engine has to rev higher on idle to get the engine all warm. Make sure though when you're driving on a cold start keep it 2k and under, as the engine oil isn't viscous enough and so you won't do any damage to engine .

Pulling away in S-econd is so much better. I'm happy! Thanks.
