Intermittent wipers ...

Hi,
I know that this is one of those "Missing" features of the Fit.

Just ran across this DIY/work-around. It looks pretty simple. It is a translated Google page.

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://homepage1.nifty.com/takumitsu/mobilio/mob66.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%25EF%25BC%2593%25EF%25BC%2595%25EF%2 5BC%2592%25EF%25BC%2595%25EF%25BC%2596%25EF%25BC%2 58D%25EF%25BC%25B3%25EF%25BC%25A3%25EF%25BC%25A3%2 5EF%25BC%258D%25EF%25BC%25AA%25EF%25BC%2590%25EF%2 5BC%2591%26hl%3Den%26hs%3D74T%26lr%3D%26client%3Df irefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-USfficial

At least this is a Honda part, I think it is from a mobilio/airwave. Cousin to the Fit.

The part# is 35256-SCC-J01.

Maybe some of the vendors on the forum an source it and make it available for board members.

There's one major problem, that is for a RHD Fit.

I just looked in my FIT brochure. Both the FIT and Sport have 2 speed/intermittant windshield wipers it says.

sorry i didn't realize it was reversed on rhd, but I thought that it was interesting because the speed is variable and not limited to 2 speeds.

just out of curiosity, do you think that you could get both left and right stalks from a rhd and then just transfer the connectors?

I'm sure there's another Honda/Acura model that has a variable intermitent wiper arm that could work in the Fit. Once the online catalogs appear, it will be easier to figure out.

Does the European Fit/Jazz have variable intermitent wipers in a LHD model? If we can get the part number, maybe it's being used in a vehicle in our market.

I had a CR-V.

Turn on the rear and it wiped twice, then went into intermittent mode. Very nice!

After some digging, I'm confident that the 2002-2006 RSX wiper arm (part 35256-S7A-G01) would bolt in, only question is if the variable setting will work. According to the RSX service manual, there are two more wires between to the wiper arm and wiper control unit than in the JDM Fit for the variable signal.

Once I get my Fit service manual I'll be doing some more digging.

I did this mod on my CRV
here some info.
http://www.hondasuv.com/stg/viewtopic.php?t=1072

STOCK CRV Wiper Switch part number is 35256-S6A-G01
STOCK FIT Wiper Switch part number is 35256-SAA-G01.
I think the middle number/alpa is to determine the make..ie Fit=SAA, S6A. I think this might work.

Great link Siribx! Here's hoping Honda used the same design in North America. Looking at the JDM wiring diagram, it looks like they integrated the intermittent function directly into the wiper arm, instead of having it in an external module like the RSX + CR-V.

The V and the RSX is integrated into the wiper switch. All you are doing is adding two wires to make the intermite to work. Nothing extra is needed.

i got the exact same wiper control arm from a Pilot and while it bolts on, it's missing the two middle wires

the intermittent function doesn't work at all with the new wiper control arm, can somebody figure out what the two missing wires do?

Did you try the link I provided above and see if the two wires from the link works?

assuming that we have this "connector X" in our fuse box

anybody with a manual can confirm that this is the same connector?

even then, I still need to go and pick up some crimping pins (4 of them) to run the wire from the connector X up to the switch.. not even sure if honda sells those by themselves

Before you search for the pins, what I did was strip about 1" of wire and put solder on them to make them like solid pins so that it will slide into the harness. I would try this to verified that the same instruction for the CRV will work on the Fit/Jazz.
If not you can also try using a resistor switch(see my first link) to conferm that this mod will work.
I am not sure about the switch from the Pilot, but I have used the RSX switch in my CRV and was succesfull. The switch is exactly the same except the RSX has the imterminate switch.

Wrong. The RSX and CR-V use an external unit to control the wipers, were as the JDM Fit (and most likely the USDM Fit) use an integrated control in the wiper arm. That's why SillyPuddy has lost the use of his intermitent wiper setting.

The two wires you've added in your CR-V are to the external unit that controls the wipers. Something the Fit doesn't have.

if that's the case, can i get the external unit from the pilot and add it to the wires missing from the pilot control stalk?

Here's the wiring diagram for the RSX, and the JDM Fit. Notice how the RSX uses a multiplex unit, and the JDM Fit doesn't (I can't confirm the USDM wiring at this time). You'd have to intercept all those wires to add the unit and get the variable intermitent wipers to work.
