So this morning my wife told me it was already cold enough so turn off the A/C. I hit the button and off it went. No problems. Then a little while later after I dropped her off at work I try to turn it back on and it won't engage.
When I press the button down the switch lights up, it makes the click noise but when I let go the light turns off. Basically it doesn't engage. The defrost button works fine. When I got to work I tried playing with it a little and if I hold it in about 1/4 inch the A/C engages and I get cold air.
This is on a 2007 Fit with 6,000 miles. Would this be covered under warranty? Or is this something I can easily/quickly fix myself?
Our '07 Fit's A/C switch was replaced under warranty for the same reason.

I have a coworker that is having this problem. Has anyone replaced this switch that can give some steps, pics, help, etc? My coworker is an older single female that bought her 07 Fit in July of 06 on my advice. I'm hoping that this is a simple fix that I might be able to help her with and save her some money. Thanks.

My '07 has a similar issue, except that the A/C won't turn off. Given that the temperatures have been in the 90's, this isn't a bad thing right now... but I'll eventually want to turn it off!
The switch itself is probably easy enough to replace, but I'm not sure about the surrounding trim, which will probably have to be removed first. But first I'll just try some electrical contact cleaner...
can you hear the compressor acutally engaging? this happened on my civic and a rock had punctured the line. you can checked the freon levels in the system, and make sure that the ac compressor is engaging when you defrost i believe the compressor turns on automatically with the defrost mode.
This is happening to me as well. What i have been doing is flipping re-circulation switch allowing air from outside to come in back and forth until it turns on. Hope this can temp solve the problem. I think it helps the AC switch make contact and engages it.
This is the exact problem that I just had with my 2009 Honda Fit. The air conditioning was working this morning, then stopped. It works if you hold the button down (and the light comes on). But it you release the button, the light goes off, and the compressor no longer engages (and therefore, the air that blows is not cold).

Sounds like the switch is faulty. No big deal to pull the surrounding panel off to get at it.
I have a 2010 Honda Fit Sport with 106000 miles. Yesterday I was parked with the car on and the a/c on. All of a sudden, the a/c button turned off on its own. I noticed that the button was hot to the touch. I tried pushing it in but it would not stay pressed in by itself. As long as I held the button in the a/c worked fine, but if I let it go, the a/c stopped working. So I read this forum and I figured it out without going to the shop or taking the whole dashboard apart. Take a flathead screw driver and place it below the A/C button and pop out the A/C button carefully. You'll see the little rectangle assembly where it's connected to the wires. If the button pops out and not the rectangle assembly, you may have to gently pull the assembly out with a pair of pliers. Disconnect the assembly from the wires and replace it. I tried local autopart stores but no luck. Had to go to the Honda dealer. I asked for an A/C switch. Cost me $30 with the tax. Works great! Hope this helps you out!

You're a god. I got a genuine Honda A/C button off eBay for $25, was able to pull the old one out using a flat head screw driver (my button was eternally stuck ON). The button popped off, then I pulled the rest of it out using pliers. I put the glove box down and reached pliers in to grab the wires, then pressed the new button into the plug. Works perfectly now. All that without spending an hour to take the dash apart. thank you!

Or you can do this and run this for another 100,000 miles. I refuse to give these idiots 500% markup when this button can't coast most then $8 to make. Called one of our deepshits at Honda. They wanted $60 for this button. I think not.
