Obdii/can scanner problem

I got Eng check light on.
I just bought AUTEL Maxiscan MS409 OBD-II/CAN compliant.
Somehow, it does not make link. It shows status bar that stays low end and doesn't go up no matter how long wait.
When turned off the key, the bar goes up and it shows "ISO-9141-2, KWP2000, and "linkage error" Try again"
Strange thing is that when i borrowed other brand, it works fine, but the other well known brand. I belive both are CAN compliant too.
Is there way to solve this problem?

When i borrowed other scanner, code cameP0301 misfire on cyl 1.
I got 108K miles on it.
I changed plugs 8K miles ago, now I changed all Ign coils.
It still uneven.
What next? Fuel injection?

Does this help?

Amazon.com: S. Mundle "Sonny"'s review of Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN OBD-II Scan Tool

I don't have one but did read this comment by someone getting a link error with a Maxiscan and suggesting a work-around.
