There's a thread in this forum called valve clearance I believe. It covers the whole procedure with picrutes and everything. I for sure wouldn't do it with out a torque wrench. I picked mine up at Home depot for a cheap price. Oh, and you'll need a set of feeler gauges. Get a fairly large set so you're covered or just make sure the correct ones are in the set. The valve them selves are easy to adjust. The pain in the ass part is getting to them.

Thank you for posting that link. That looks like a lot of work. I may do that procedure next weekend.

I took the manifold off at the cylinder head which has a metal gasket and I've had no problems with leakage. I also reused the valve cover gasket. This may have been covered earlier but you'll want some Hondabond for the part of the mating surface that's near the cam.

Good tip about the Hondabond. I have however also reused a head gasket but I didn't run the engine more that a few miles. (I had to replace one of the valve springs.)

I just don't like reusing gaskets. Most of the metal ones are designed to be put on and torqued down, which crushes the gasket into the proper shape. When it is reused it can distort and not seat properly.

For under $30.00 there is less of a chance of having an issue that will make it so you have to tear the whole thing down again and then buy the gaskets anyway.

Yea, reusing gaskets is a little risky but that's actually what the guy at the Honda parts counter suggested. By the way what was your reason for replacing a valve spring?

That was on my old Nova. I had rebuilt the heads and accidentally put one of the old springs back on an intake valve. While adjusting the rockers I noticed that it was a different color. 2 hours later I was back in business.

Well I have not worked on tightening mine yet due to the weather(too cold to do it), I may end up taking it to the dealer plus I don't have the time to do it and not confident enough for my Fit is my only means of transportation. Does anyone know how much is this type of job? Thanks.

x2 I guess these types of engines need this done because my engine needs a valve adjustment as well, Im only on 44k but its too too cold outside to work on it.

I just did mine today. It took me 4.5hours, it killed my back! Great experience though. I notice that the clearance on the exhaust is pretty much close to nothing so I had to adjust that. My only question is how much drag should I be expecting to do? Because when I did it, I just made sure that the feeler guage would slide in freely but with enough drag.
