A/C pump question.

OK, this is a simple question. With the heater ON and the temp selectore turned to max heat. Why does the A/C pump seems to turn on only when using the front defrost? Full defrost or the mix of defrost/feet.

Because if the A/C pump turned on, you wouldn't get max heat? (Just a guess!)

It's part of a Honda's maximum defrost system that engages the AC to help take moisture out of the air AND not being able to turn it off is going to SUCK!!!!

My crv has selinoid activated AC and you're able to reprogram it by holding in a couple of the enviromental controls when you first turn on the car. (this lets you turn off the AC compressor when running in defrost)
NA honda did not give me the instruction on how to do it on my CRV. I found it online at the HondaSUV forum and someone there said it was included in the EU model's owners manual. It also worked on previous generation Civics.

I wonder if any overseas Fit/Jazz owners might have a shortcut step to turning this stupid little trick off?

Yeah, it seems to be such a waste of energy. I like to run the mix defrost and feet heater when needed. And the whole time the pump has to run. So I only use it when really needed.

I did the "trick" on previous CR-V's and Civic's as well. When I get mine (should be here any time!!!!! --) I'll be seeing about reprogramming the system and will write up how to do when I get it figured out.

Question

My concern is the mechanical and not relay driven Recirc on the Fit...
Here's the Civic proceedure:

What you will need: Two Fingers
Time Needed: 10 seconds.
Annoyed with how you can't turn off the A/C when you turn to defog? Here's the override (realize that A/C expediates the defog process).
These steps are taken from a discussion thread on 2k1civic.com
  1. Turn Car Off
  2. Turn Temperature Knob To Full Blue (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
  3. Turn Vent Knob To Off (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
  4. Hold Down Air Recirculation Button As Well As A/C Button
  5. Keep Both Buttons Depressed and Start Car
  6. Keep Both Buttons Depressed for 7 Seconds
  7. *AC LIGHT SHOULD BLINK*
You will now have control of your A/C regardless of what setting you are in, to revert back, simply repeat the procedue.

it should theoretically work; I noticed this too when I test drove the Fit.
just turn the recirc lever to that side and see if it can do it, wouldn't hurt to try
