hey all, i hear this weird sound, kind of like a howling/whistling sound under acceleration. it does not happen all of the time though, its an 07 base, automatic with almost 55k miles. an easy way to try to explain this is when moving real slow with the engine basically slowing itself down the howling sound the engine makes, its similar to what that sounds like under acceleration, yet its not all of the time, it stops under braking and when i take my foot off the gas. this has just started recently. if it was doing it all the time i think it would be easier to figure out, but due to it being intermittent this has me quite confused. any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

 

Try different gasoline premium to see if it goes away. Check fluids might be low on oil. Did you replace trans fluid? It sound like carbon knock might need a tuneup but dont get fuel injection service except from a dealer so it will be under a warrentee if something goes wrong. My Brother in Law had a problem with sensors going out after a fuel injection service.

 

ok ill double-check all that tomorrow, no i haven't changed the trans fluid yet i was going to have that done at 60k along with the coolant. but quick question-forgive me if i'm wrong, isn't a carbon knock a pinging or knocking sound instead of the whistling type noise? it even kind of sounds like an intake sound like from a cai except at a higher pitch and maybe not as loud. i even tried it in park and it only does it when it is in drive. this is weird. thanks again.

 

Do you have a cia?,, There might be a leak and did you adjust valves yet? It sounds like the car is running lean.

 

nope no cai, just referring to the sounds thats all, havent had the valves adjusted yet, but like i said this isnt all the time which is what i find weird, ill hopefully have time to look more into it tomorrow

 

Did you recently change the air filter or open the air filter box for any reason? If so, make sure that it's really closed. I've had a weird noise like that when the filter box wasn't closed properly.
