Loud noises & burning at cold start
Just thought I'd ask here before I take the car to my mechanic:
Starting only recently, my car's been making very loud metallic ticking/clicking noises from a cold start, much louder than the usual ones that alot of Fits have. It is kind of noticeable in P, very loud in R, and somewhere in between in D. This louder 2ndary clicking noise goes away once the car is warmed up - but it is something I didn't used to have a couple weeks back. The car got a valve adjustment 6000 miles ago.
Also from a cold start, there's a strong burning smell coming from the pulley belt / alternator. I'm quite certain it's coming from there. The smell also goes away for the most part once the car is warmed up.
As a side note - I changed my front air/fuel ratio sensor (O2) recently and my MPG went up to 27 from an average of 22-23. The very next tank of gas it went back down to 23 (tried resetting ECU, did not change this) and this is around when the noise/burning smell started. Could the sudden drop in increased MPG that only lasted 1 tank of gas & the burning smell / noises from the belt/alternator be related, or just unfortunate coincidence?
Not sure what's going on but maybe someone has had the same symptoms/experience before.

My '07 Fit has begun making similar noises but I would describe it as a weird squealing sound with accompanying burning rubber smell. My guess is a belt somewhere slipping? The noise does go away when the car is warmed up -- this morning was 15deg F.
Any guys know which belts on the Fit tend to slip first?

I have a similar metalic sound that like yours goes away after warm up but without the burning smell. This has been going on for a couple of years and i assumed it was piston slap. Does your burning smell like rubber?
