Question Rear Bumper Protector/Applique

Hi all. Has anyone seen this option? And if so, does it look lame or actually useful/decent?

Thanks!

I have it, yes it's useful and it looks decent.

Eventually you'll scratch up the top of your rear bumper without it.

I got it on my Fit from new - every display model I saw at the North American Auto show (except for the one with the applique) had scratched paint on the lift over bumper area

Yes, well worth it. They charge labor to install, so you may just want to get it afterwards and stick it on yourself.

Anyone that thinks they do not need it, I can send photos of the bumper tops on my 1995 and 1992 Camry Wagons......

I'd like to see some photos if you have them. I'm not sure I'm totally sold on the applique, I like the idea but I think I might like the style I've seen on the Matrix better. It's a little more rubber looking and bumpy.

Has any one tried just keeping a bath towel in the car? you can lay it down across the bottem rear hatch for unloading and loading. It protects the rubber and prevents scratching.

Yes, that would be a better alternative, the bumper applique blocked off all the paint, what's the point of doing that now when if you see some slight damage, then you can stick that on to cover and seal up the area versus now covering the whole area of NEW paint...

Isn't there a Japanese rear fold over protector for the rear bumper?

I would get that instead.

I am going with the tail gate garnish From Mugen - I was told it will fit the NADM Fit. I think it cleans up the back nicely..

There is an outdoor product called Pac Skin. It is a peel and stick rubber sheet that you can trim to fit. I don't know how much it will cost but it might be as good or better than this protector from Honda. I have the same rubber grip material on a couple of handguns. It is a soft rubber with a pebbled finish. It is made by Pachmayr.

It may fit the hatch - but I'll bet it doesn't cover all the bumper!
The JDM rear liftover sill is inches shorter than the NA one....

Why not cut a piece of paint protection film like Starshield? It would be nearly invisable too.

simplife brought this to my attention...I will be exploring the option of getting custom ventureshield pieces cut for the rear bumper to protect from scratching when loading stuff into the back of the car. Will let you guys know more when I explore this option.

Do have a pic or some specs on that, how about price?

Maybe this is too "red-neck", but I keep a piece of cardboard in my hatch that I fold out when I need to load something. It keeps the bumper from getting scratched, and keeps the carpet from getting messed up, as well.

I've heard the tail gate garnish doesn't fit very well without using their rear bumper too, and then you need to re-do the 're-bar'. You might want to check around, I've heard there will be large-ish gaps.

The back bumper of our minivan is all scratched up in this spot, mostly from shoes. You rest the load on your raised knee while grabbing the hatch to pull it closed.

Clear rear bumper protection

ClearBra paint protection film, parcel loading protection is $89. installed up here in Vancouver BC. It works and you can't really see it.

I bought the applique after-market and installed it myself. Glad I did.
