Fit "pops" out of 1st when shifting into 2nd
Hey guys, i wanted to share this experience with you and see if this happens with anybody else.
Ive noticed that when i take my fit up to near redline in 1st and quickly shift to 2nd, it seems as if the shifter flies (you can actually feel it forced backward) out of 1st as soon as you step on the clutch and start to pull the shifter back. Twice now its caused a small grind into second, does the fit just not like to be rushed? or is this just my fit? please dont post telling my im driving incorrectly, i am a very competent driver. Fit has 35k on it.\
Out of the 4 hondas ive owned, and the numerous cars ive driven ranging from 90-700 whp, i have never once had this happen.
anybody else?

anybody else have this issue?
yeah thats gotta be it!
i cant put the link between the two in my head, but that thing sure gets hated on, we found a good way to get rid of it yet? any noticeable improvement?
there was an issue with some MT gd3's where the internal gear selector bolt is loose and could fall off. one gd3 owner had his trans torn to shreds because the bolt fell out and turned his synchros into confetti.
i pulled the lever out to find that mine was loose too, glad i got off my lazy ass to do it. i don't know if the loose bolt attributed to the 1st gear pop-out but i hadn't had that problem since it was tightened.

nah, the gear selector lever is right under the battery tray for GD's. not sure where it would be for the GE but i would assume it's in the same general area.
instructions are simple enough. disconnect the shift linkage then remove 4 10mm bolts and the whole lever pulls out of the trans. i should have made a DIY but i had greasy hands and only my iphone at the time.

oh duh...dont know where my head was at...im going to have to take a look at this, how much did you tighten it back up? ive got a helms manual, prolly has a torque spec in it.
oh so thats what it is... it only happens occasionally to me. i thought it just wasnt me engaging the clutch fully and shifting too early. Only happens to me when im sleepy in the morning. :P
It happens when you haven't fully depressed the clutch pedal and there is still some loading on the gears when you touch the shift lever. Adjust your shifting technique and it won't happen anymore.
The clutch delay valve only slows down clutch engagement. It has no effect on clutch release.

Because they are different cars?
Lots of people report this behavior so I assume it is just something the Fit does. Assuming it is not an actual defect that Honda has not fixed yet.
I also had it happen when I did fast high rev shifting in my new Fit. Not a problem anymore.

IIRC, torque spec was 40lbs?? it was over a year ago and i can't quite remember anymore. i do remember putting blue loctite and over torquing by 2 lbs because i was using my dad's crappy lever/analog type torque bar.
Hmm I'll have to check that as well. Don't need a countershafted grenadier.
My car did it a lot when new but not so much anymore, unless I'm just clueless and subconsciously ignoring it. I always had attributed it to the smushy motor mounts. The motor kicks back and forth after you push the clutch (releasing compression in the mounts) and when you start to pull the shifter back, when bringing the hub off the flats of the gear, it can kick it out because the hub spins with the countershaft (and thus the diff/axles/tires) that from the momentum of the car wants to spin a constant speed. It's not as pronounced in other gears because the torque exerted by the transmission onto the axles is greatest in 1st, and thus motor mount deflection is also the farthest.
I imagine my civic would have done it but that had a heavy weighted shift bar running down the exhaust tunnel that likely would have absorbed it. That, and the engine was quite a bit heavier.

I've experienced this too, but not at redline. On top of from 1st to 2nd, I had it happen when I popped out of 2nd to 3rd.
I'm inclined to agree that it's us drivers not pushing the clutch far enough, since it doesn't happen on every shift change and that immediately when it happens, I notice my clutch leg isn't extended as far as I normally am.

Shifting in action - https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...toe-shift.html - having too much fun.
Not sure what's up with your leg lengths Goobs_
