Check out post #42 thru #70

We talked about it extensively on there and it fixed it 100%
Check that out...and if you need any help, let me know.

It's just a piece of trim around the windshield rattling--just add some foam weatherstripping and you'll be good as gold.

Hey thanks for the info...I've looked here and the other thread and can't seem to see exactly where you are putting the foam.......could you maybe pots a pic so I could get a good look at it?

Thanks!

Is there a possible way to get honda to recall this? It seems to happen to be happening to everyone. I dont think it should be our job to MacGyver it.

Try beating up on the dash panels. Seriously. I had that problem when out '09 was new. I took a technician with me for a ride so he could hear it. We both did. What he did was, using his fist, hit a few of the panels in the dash trying to resolve the problem. Not hard enough to break anything but yet firmly. When he hit the panel just above the glove box that took care of the problem. He explained to me that these various panels fit together sort of like Legos and sometimes the tab isn't firmly all the way in the corresponding hole. Haven't had the problem since.

After about 6 months of this problem I've tried a couple of solutions in these threads but none really worked. I finally noticed the rattle was coming from the (passenger side) seam where the dark plastic of the dash meats with the light gray of the A-Pillar. I bought some tennis racket handle grip tape and wedged the seam open and tucked a strip of the tape in there. So far no more rattle but it's only been one day. The tape is very grippy and shock absorbant.

I thought I was hit by the dreaded rattle but I was wrong.

First I stuck a piece of paper towel under the cowl piece to stop any movement.. Nope still had the rattle.

In top glove box only had the USB so let it hang out the box door. Nope still rattle.

The real problem?? The shit I got in the lower box. A small plastic container got up near the corner of the glove door and was the culprit. Solution you ask. Open the window and toss the container. Beats cranking the radio and now my HKS is nice and clear and I can hear the siren next to those red and blue lights in my mirror.

I went down a similar road - my 'rattle' turned out to be a cd case in the lower glove box hiding under the owner's manual.

Go check the link I posted earlier in this thread. There are a few pics on there. But basically it's the dark plastic near the bottom of the windshield. It's got a notch for the wiper area...

Yes, need help!

2011 FIT purchased 9/11.

Horrible dash rattle first noticed 10/11. Driver side only. Occurs when driving on less than smooth pavement. Getting worse. Have tried to pinpoint source - not vents, turning heat on does not help.

HATE dealers but finally made appointment for this week. Said "you must see this problem often". Reply: "Don't recall anyone having this problem." Liar.

I just know service department at dealer will not come up with fix. Please direct me what to do next. If I can pinpoint source, can fix.

(Only reason I bought FIT was previous car was '97 Civic Hatchback - solid as a rock, no major problems, usual maintenance stuff. Sold Hatchback because moved 400 miles. Big mistake. Will NEVER buy another Honda. Quality has disintegrated.)

I used some foam rubber round caulking rod, or rope.. It is found where insulation foam for doors and windows is at Lowe's, Home Depot and places like that... I forgot what diameter size I used but I pushed it down between the windshield and the top of dash.. The stuff has shrunk some due to the weather being cooler so I will be getting a larger size soon.. I will post what the brand, size and name of the stuff is.. My dash only rattles in cold weather but with a supercharged engine and free flowing exhaust system it can hardly be heard... I'm pretty deaf anyway but the rattle was still bothersome before I began making performance modifications to my car.

Thanks, TC. Will report back on what service folks say at dealer appt. on Thursday.

Guess I am lucky, since I have read every thread and post re: the dreaded dashboard rattle on fitfreak.net, and my rattle appears to be localized - not widespread as some have reported.

Please do let me know brand name of foam rubber round caulking rod, or rope, that you used. Nowhere near Home Depot or Lowe's, but Ace Hardware is close by.

I wonder if this is a case of a stripped fastener screw anchor. I noticed while installing splash guards on our Honda Fit Sport, that the side bottom trim that connects at front wheel well has a screw that would not unscrew. I had to help it out with a flat screwdriver since the plastic anchor was no longer holding the screw in place. I removed the anchor and it easily pushes onto the screw when it should be tight and only be able to screw in. These seem to wear out easily from the bumping and jarring of the auto. We also have a Toyota MR2 that my husband replaced the odemeter and same thing happened, the anchors were stripped so now I have to put my hand on the dash when I go down our gravel road until I get out on the highway. Just a thought.
That weatherstripping sounds like a good idea.
Regards, Safina

Interesting thought, Safina. Will tell service folks when I take FIT to dealer on Thursday.

If I push up hard on dash, driver's side, rattle does subside somewhat. OK on smooth roads.

I just want to resolve this issue. Driving me more bonkers than I usually am!

I planned to go by Lowe's when in town yesterday but stopped by O'Riley's to get some DEI Hi-Temp silicone coating for some exhaust wrap... I ended up having 4 young guys pull up wanting to see what I had under the hood and got into a conversation with a guy about my age that was into air cooled VWs... One guy asked if he could take pictures of the plumbing under the hood and the exhaust... I had told my wife I would cook so I had to get home... It's a gorgeous day so I'll be heading out again and will make it to Lowe's this time...

When you say that you "push up" I assume you're talking about pushing up and forward under the front of the dash in front of the top of the steering wheel... If that is the case the stuff I made a trip into town for "Backing Rod" is what you need.. I have used the stuff for years and never can recall the name of it..5/8" diameter was the largest I could find and it works well under 100MPH but will pop out of place when you have a mad moment or the slow moving turbo diesel pickup your trying to pass on a 2 lane road forces you to wind to the top of 3rd and 4th gear.... It is gray in color so it's no big thing if it shows a little...In recent years people notice little rattles more than in the past.. It's because today's cars are quieter than in the past.. I think sitting as close to the dash as one does in a car as small as a Fit make the rattle even more annoying....Remember the stuff you need is 5/8" Backing Rod and is found in the section of the store that has weather stripping for doors and windows.. Now I need to go back out to the barn and stuff my backing rod back in place That last sentence sounds a little bit strange..Oh well...+
