try something like "the goo buster" or similar products... search for an oily, citrus smelling product, you'll probably have to wash it after with armor all or wathever you use for detailing!

you could also try fuel lighter but the smell...

Goof off or Goo Gone might work too...In the cleaning products aisle. (household)

Citrus cleaners will work, however, keep away from Armor-All types.
Gas-off will haunt you the life of the car.
Finish clean-up with mild soap/water solution.

Hey everyone. Has anyone else had this problem and was successful cleaning it up. I've got a similar spot on my dash from leaving a plastic sleeve on the dash one day in the sun. Such a stupid mistake. Now I have a shiny spot on my dash like the OP.

kitkit201 did you have any luck cleaning up the spot?

TIA

I was wondering if anyone has found a product to restore the matte surface to the black plastic dash - I stupidly put one of those phone mats on my dash and now I've got a shiny rectangle. It's not a residue, I've tried Goo Gone and Oops and interior cleaner with no effect. I'm about to try isopropyl alcohol but I thought I'd check here first.

I've often had pretty good luck cleaning plastic surfaces with scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner (or a generic equivalent). While obviously not the case here, it works quite well against nicotine stains. A scrub brush helps a lot with cleaning out the texturing, regardless of the cleaner used.

Isopropyl should be safe for the plastic, though it might not do anything useful for the residue either.
