Cleaning the engine, the easy way?

I'm new to this forum. Regarding cleaning the engine, I just noticed my 2010 Fit is filthy under the hood from driving on wet and snowy paved roads in eastern Washington (Spokane). Is it okay just to go to a car wash, open the hood and use the hot rinse high powered spray under the hood?
