Help! Smell something burning!
ok. my fit has almost 19,xxx
and recently i smell burning smell.
i thought it was just outside or something.
but its actually under the hood.
i cant seem to figure out.
the oil level is fine.
all the hoses and stuff seems fine.
the smell is coming from exhaust manifold area towards left side
where the engine oil cap is located.
has anybody been through something similar?
or any suggestions? im really paranoid about these stuff.
so im like dead scared.
plus its the beginning of the new year and stuff like this is scaring the hell out of me.
PLEASE HELP!

ok.
last night i was kinda well, in the high rpm zone.
i dont know what is causing this.
and yes this does happen in normal conditions.
maybe its the plastic intake manifold? that cant handle the heat and melting?
LOL.
I HOPE NOT!
but i am DEAD SERIOUSLY SCARED!
is this normal for fits?

My wife and I purchased a new car about 6 years ago. It had 2 miles on it when pulling it off of the lot. We got about 2 miles down the street and I started smelling rubber (or something) burning, and noticed a slight amount of smoke while at a stop light. I immediately turned around, went back to the dealer, and had them check it out.
They told me it was completely normal for cars to smell like something is burning, and could occur occasionally all the way up to 25-30,000 miles. And can occur on rare occasions past that mileage. They checked it out just the same, with me watching, assuring me it was only new excess rubber, oils, plastics and factory materials either softening into place from the heat, or actually burning off... it's all a part of an ongoing break-in procedure for all cars... some worse than others.
I just had this happen to a couple of years old truck. It went through a day or two of intermittent smells. I had it checked out, and everything was fine.
Again, I can't say this is your problem. But I can absolutely tell you it happens. If you have your ride checked out and nothing is wrong, then don't worry about it... it's more than likely what I'm talking about.

if you haven't already, try looking under the car for any plastic grocery bags or anything that could have gotten melted onto your exhaust pipe (or melted plastic where there once was a bag). i've seen that happen before.

ok.
i took it to my buddy and he thinks its fine.
he thinks its something stuck that i ran over and burning.
he said it smells like shit.
and that its not wires.
there are no visible smokes and the belt is good.
im gonna take it to my local shop to look under the chassis
and hopefully i find something stuck or something.
argH!
this is starting to irritate me!

If it smells like burning oil check the oil filter for a leak around the seal. I've had this happen on a couple of honda's after high rpm bursts when the filter wasn't tight enough. On my SI I had to crank the shlo out of the filter to stop this from happening.
