Burning smell from heater

Today, I had a 1hr trip on my 07 Fit and had the heater on most of the way. Once I got home, I started smelling rubber burning smell from the heater. I thought maybe it was coming from outside, but when I opened up the hood I could smell it more. It wasn't that bad, but I could tell it was coming from the back of the engine somewhere.

Has anyone experience such thing? I did some search, but came up empty.

Thanks.

try taking a look under the car. it's possible something like a plastic grocery bag got caught along the exhaust pipe and started melting/burning. it's happened to me a couple of times.

Bump for the plastic bag, that sucks. Now that it has happened to me I swerve to avoid them on the road...

it wasn't the plastic bag.

Today, I realized there were lot of oil spots in the garage. So I immediately checked the oil level and holy mother..... it was dry. I couldn't believe it. Looking under the car saw big oil stains. It was leaking from somewhere. So I took it to the Honda dealer right away because that's where I had my oil change.

They told me there was a damage on the oil filter. He said at first maybe something hit it hard and then said it could be a defective filter. Then how come tech didn't notice it when installing it. He said they must have missed it. Maybe oil filter wasn't tight enough...

Somehow I felt I wasn't getting the straight answer. However, I was glad there was no damage to anything except maybe little strain on the engine. Note that there was no oil indicator to show oil was low. The dipstick inserted after wiping it showed no trace of oil at all, so I don't know how much was in there.

I'm glad I checked the oil right away. How often do you check oil on these new cars anyway. I think I will be checking the oil level regularly from now on.

I think I will complain to the dealer. Maybe I'll get something out of it.
