Burning smell after installation *help*

so i just installed an axleback and its really really loud, i hope i dont get pulled over here in Ct as ive heard in the past

anyways... i was riding around making sure that everything was fine after installation, and when i parked inside my garage there seemed to be kinda like a marshmellow smore burning smell around my car, i think the engine from far away, and i then opened the hood, and the smell went away, the engine and stuff was warm as it should be, then i closed the hood and walked away, came back 5 min later and the smell was back but not as strong.

i went out for another test drive an hour later and when i returned, the smell returned as well..

is this normal ? is it just breaking in the new exhaust ? will the smell go away or what ? please help me, thanks

yeah its just the exhaust. I got my aspec almost 2 weeks ago and i smelled something funny as well. And supposedly that LSD exhaust is pretty good. I read another thread on this forum talking about it.

hmm.... no the bumper is not touching, its like 1.5 inches lower than the back bumper, and thanks for the info everyone.

that would be interesting, if my finger prints were burning off after installation lol and hopefully it will soon go away cuz its really pungent

it happens with headers too thats why you should wipe it off before you turn on your car before it gets hot because they will never come off after it gets hot

its the salt that really burns. your body oils break down at a certain temperature and the burning salt is what gives off the smell. it could also be a spray on finish burning off too. some companies put a metal clear coat on their exhaust products and for about a week it will smell differant but will eventually go away.

yeah like everyone already said, it's normal. i'm not sure exactly what is burning off to produce the smell but it will go away after a little bit so don't sweat it.

aside from finger oil, i always thought of this too. I'm sure there is some kind of coat from polishing the metal. But i was aware of the finger oil thing so i only touched the exhaust by the piping (which is black) and the hangers so i can keep the muffler and tip nice looking

to give the metal that polished finish is just a really fine grit sander and then buffer but some add a polish compound just to give their product that extra edge. Kinda like puting wax on apples.

also just to let you know, your muffler will probably get a LITTLE quieter when it breaks in. At least when i installed 2 mufflers on my sister's car in the past it was like that. My car i dunno cuz i got the muffler used

4 inches exhaust is kinda big don't you thinik? 2.5" or below for N/A and anything above 2.5" are for turbo or supercharged.
