Grinding noise at idle and driving.
Grinding noise at idle and driving.
My girlfriend has an 07 Fit Sport auto. At idle and driving it is like something grinding but it's not a consistent noise, like a tentioner or something. It's got 80k miles anyone have any ideas?
Before she bought this one we test drove one with 88k miles and it also had the same noise just considerably louder.
Any input is appreciated.

Yes it increases the faster the engine turns. I'm thinking it's like a tentioner or something. Was hoping it was a common problem sence the two fits I've driven with similar mileage had the same issue.
Like I said I assumed it was a common issue of some sort. I Havnt had a real good chance to narrow down exactly where it is coming from because if I did I could probably figure it out for myself. Which is why I was asking here before I started tearing this thing apart to find the problem.
Sorry, I've only got 18K on mine and I don't know much about the Fit yet 'cuz it's so damn reliable it's needed about as much maintenance as your average rock. I don't recall posts here about such noise being a common problem. Maybe someone with more tech knowledge or Fit experience will chime in, like a Honda tech.
"Grinding" to me means possible bad bearings or seals in whatever is being driven off the belt. In the old days, as a first (easy and free) step, I'd spray belt dressing on the belts to see if that made the nose go away, but that was when we had multiple v-belts -- do that on a serpentine belt and it'll slip off the tensioner. DAMHIK.
