DIY Keyless Entry?

I bought the base FIT which I have throughly enjoyed however....I wish it had Keyless entry. Collegehills honda has the kit for $109 and my dealer told me $240 installed. So, can I buy the kit and do it myself, or is it something best left to the dealership? Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you go back to College Hill's site, you'll see a link to the installation instructions; you can read them and decide whether you'd feel comfortable doing it yourself.

I downloaded the instructions and bought the kit from my local dealer (in hawaii) and did it myself in less than an hour. MAN does keyless entry make a difference... I read the instructions 5x before I attempted to do it. take your time and it's EXACTLY as the instructions are...you can do it!

ive got the sport and have the keyless entry, obviously, but want to take it a step further. i'd like to purchase an extra left rear door handle and put that up front as to not have ANY keyholes. but my local dealership is charging an arm and a leg. anyone know of a site i can find this item? i've done some searches (searching for things for the "fit" BTW sucks, anyone else have this problem?) and have found nothing so far.

Was it hard? I've looked at the instruction before, and automatically decided that it is a job for the mechanics...Is it difficult for non EE/ME majors?

Do it yourself. The instructions are very simple and it doesnt have that many steps. If you need help there is always a fellow fitfreak that will help.

Just make sure to READ the instructions a few times, take it a step at a time. Why would you pay your dealer more than $120 to install it???

If you're in hawaii, you can pay me $50 and I'd do it for you! hahaha
All kidding aside: it's easy. the most difficult thing about it was bending backwards and finding the blue-taped connector in back of the fuse box. the rest was cake.

You should definitely do it yourself. You just have to disconnect and connect harnesses so it is cake. No soldering or custom modifications required.

Thanks everyone...I will try it myself when I have saved enough to buy it. I've read it 3 more times today. I guess it's not as bad as I thought.

Help on Keyless entry

All kidding aside: it's easy. the most difficult thing about it was bending backwards and finding the blue-taped connector in back of the fuse box. the rest was cake.
Hello to recently I bought a keyless entry and alaram.

I noticed that the instruction Manual that i downloaded was different from my car.

The orientation fuse box from the instruction manual is vertical while mine is horizontal.

now my problem is i found a 2 pin terminal taped at the back of the fuse box while my keyless entry harness with the urethane foam has 5 pin. The color of the terminal from the vehicle wire harness is brown and they are both male terminal.

Btw my car is a honda jazz 2005 asian version.

Cool DIY keyless entry.....??

Iwillfit,

Let me know how your install goes? I'm looking into getting the keyless entry kit as well. Does your remote come on a key or is it separate? Do you know if you can the remote on the key?

I installed the keyless entry and the alarm.
SSM0423 took an hour - but it took me longer - I could never be a mechanic.
A couple of the connectors were a bit difficult to disconnect and with both the keyless entry and alarm - things got pretty crowded in there.

The diagrams in the instructions were quite accurate. I kept wondering how anybody could draw that well.

Like SSM0423, I had trouble finding the blue-taped connector. I think I finally found it by looking up under the dash with my head by the brake and gas pedal. If you need help, get somebody from a yoga class! Just joking.

If you find that you really can't do it and nobody on fitfreak can help you - then just take everything to your Honda dealer.

I might (???) have found your part at College Hills Honda for a very reasonable price.
They have all the body colors listed. I don't know if the rear will fit on the front though.

go to
OEM Genuine Honda Parts at Discount Prices
enter your car model and your part might be displayed under the section
REAR DOOR LOCKS-OUTER HANDLE

For this and any other parts go to the fitfreak section
Fit It Yourself : Discuss Do It Yourself-Repair and Maintenance

and look for the thread
Almost every little part of the FIT is listed

The entry by phonedon has a suggestion for many other sites and what might be the cheapest site.

Cool Yes, I did it!!

I bought the keyless entry kit and installed it. I didn't really have any problem other than finding the blue taped connector and programing the remote. Just like CNDFIT said "If you need help, get someone from a yoga class." Lucky, I was flexible enough to look under the dash board. I also had a little problem programing the remote. After I program it, the lock button did work. After trying a few time, I left it alone after programing it and came back and it was working. Don't know if I just needed to let it sit or if I just got lucky but it works. Sorry, I didn't take any pictures but if you follow the directions from the dealer it should be easy and simple. Even I figure it out!!

trace the wiring that leads to the fusebox. Right around the gas/brake pedal area, there's the connector you're looking for that's taped with BLUE tape. Feel around 1st - you'll feel the connector not connected to anything.. Good luck!

updated: i figured out the problem, same problem i had in school, read the instructions, when i was turning the ignition from on to off, the time it made the noise, thought it had meant the key fob was programmed, nay nay, it means that it is in programming mode, then you mash lock to program the key in. once i realized that, i had no problem what so ever.

i have the same problem as above, i installed everything afaik correctly, cant really hook it up wrong, considering you cant mix up connectors, only thing i could think was putting fuse in wrong place in the fuse box maybe.

but anyways, hooked everything up, programmed one of the fobs, and turned the car off, walked away and tested it, nothing happened, no noises as if it was trying to work or not. when i programmed it the lock "cycled" as in it made a noise as if it locked but didnt, which made me think it was reading it, i saw that someone else had the same problem above and just waited a while and came back and it worked.

of course when i had the problem i got on here and searched around and found that out. so i went out and tried it again, and it still did not work.

i know the batteries work in the fob, because the redlight comes on when i mash a button, and i assume the keyless assembly unit functions okay, because when i program it, i think the fourth time of cycling through on and off and mashing a button, it makes the noise as if it is going to lock the doors, anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.

any tips, hints, or ideas of what might be going on?

thanks
