No Codes, Just lots of soot and runs bad. It starts OK. I know its just bad gasoline. Has to do with E10 regular and the temp changes the last month. The temps go down to as cold 10 degrees at night and 40 degrees in the day. Also complete winter gas comes out on Dec. 15th.

Your temps down there are more constant so your mpg and fuel related problems are not as severe.

Yes, I do work for MTS. Are you familiar with them?

Update: Yesterday I had to replace my battery because the original one was getting really weak on cold Minnesota mornings. This cleared the CEL. I condn't find any historical error codes stored in the ECU. My plan now is to run premium fuel and cross my fingers that the CEL doesn't come back on. ...I'll update this thread of it comes back on. I'll also update the thread if nothing happens after a few hundred miles.

Glad to hear that, I will remember to check the battery first now. I would take it out on the highway for a good run and heat the Cat to burn off any deposits.

I could care less about mpg. My car is boosted and I get like 25 mpg or so. Just so u know that code is just for monitoring the cat. If u have other codes fix it first because that could cause cat to clog... If it was mine id put a new cat in and clear it. Especially with that many miles on it. I also think there might be an 8 year 80000 mile warranty on emissions related items. So u might be able to get a car for free. Except u probably cleared the code and it might not come back on again. Might have just had a hiccup or something.

I work for a Chevy dealer and I see stuff like this all the time. I also know we like in different climates and things are a little different.

Thank for the advice, the car is leased and is under warranty. It has 17K miles and this problem has been there since 5000 miles on and off with no codes. My car runs really good and was going to buy it for 11,000 dollars when the lease is up but I will probably just fix my sons turbo Acura and build it the way I want it.

Mpg in a stock car tells a lot of how the engine is running. 25 is really good for a boosted motor. I get low 40s in the summer but winter kills mpg up here but I still get in the lower to mid 30s. My wife is lucky to get 25mpg all year long.

If there was codes, I would know whats going on. The mpg should be around 30 with her short trips. We have RFG gas which has a lower BTU count and is supposed to have the additives in it to prevent ORI like they said and want every one to believe. My point was to show that there is a difference and that lower octane gas even in a stock motor can cause problems. I will throw a cleaner in it with premium and drive it to work for a week. That will solve the problem if my wife listens to me. BTW my wife went to school to be a mechanic and graduated. Shows what they dont teach.

Hmm, two motor heads in the family... always controversial. Sounds like your wife might simply be in a hurry to get to places ;-)

My neighbor has worked for them for years. Other than browsing there website I'm not that familiar. It does look like an interesting field though.

Glad to hear that your cel has cleared. Hope it stays that way.

Yes she did work on cars but its been 20 years. Her car ran better today when I got gas for it. It warmed up to 45 today. She got 23 mpg last tank and that was with me taking it to work 2 days. I filled my car too and got 35mpg and I drive it 75 mph on the tollway. Its the short trips and the way she drives that hurt her mpg. The van gets better mpg with the 3.8 liter then the Civic the way she drives.

Yes. Light stayed off for ~2000 miles, but then came on again, off again about three times. Now it is off. Don't really know what to make of it. Local Honda dealer said to bring it in the next time it comes on.

No codes, and lately running better. Fuel injection cleaner and good gas for a few tanks cleaned up the problem.

Has anyone replaced a cat on a Fit? Is it fairly straight forward? Bolts on both ends tying into exhaust system?

I haven't replaced my cat though I've removed it so to answer your question, yes, it is straight forward.
