usually the blades lift from the passenger side to the driver for better visibility for the driver, switching to JDM wipers will give you half the visibility as left hand drive wipers

Taken from the Ausfit boards...this was done on a Australian model Jazz so there MAY be some differences.

NOTE: Do this at your own risk. I claim no responsibility on the accuracy of these instructions nor any resulting damage from trying to perform this mod.

First need to take off the plastic which is at the base of the wiper remove it by pulling the corners outwards, then it comes off

Once the cover is removed, a 10mm hexagonal socket wrench is needed to remove the bolt.
(be aware not to apply excess pressure else it could damage the threading of the screw, or even damage/crack the wiper)

After the bolt is removed, the wiper is then removed.

Now open your hatch so you have access to the inside.
At the base of the door you will see 2 clips. to remove these use pen tip or similar to press centre section, once depressed, the clip will pop out for easier removal

Next is to remove the plastic handle. I think your suppose to use a flat head screwdriver or such to slip into the area's where the 2 slots are. But you could skip this step, as I found out from the following step that the handle would just pop out.

Now is time to remove the plastic panel from the rear door.
Start by pulling from the outermost edge (preferably the corners near the window) and work your way around. Don't be too afraid to use a little force, as the plastic panel is held by 10 white clips shown.

Once the panel is removed, it allows easier access to the motor for the rear wiper.
Using the 10mm wrench, remove the 3 screws.
(note, there is a plastic section of the cable connected to the metal, i used some pliers to squeeze it out. also take note of the location of the screw with a washer connected to the wire, and the position of the 2 wires connecting to the motor. You'll need to where they go when you try to put it back later on..)

Using a Philips head screw driver(+), remove the cross headed screws.
This is what the motor/gear look like

The circle shows the section of the gear which needs to cut/drilled to make room for the rod
(note, its very greasy making it difficult, and also don't cut/drill too deep as there is an electrical connector on the other side of the gear.)

Once the knob is cut/drilled, and the rod is put into place, this is what it should look like.

Now replace the metal backing, and the connecting wires to test it out.
Make sure you test it before putting back the plastic panel incase you made a mistake somewhere

Place the wiper vertically and test if it swings in the right direction, and ends in the right position before putting all the panels back.

The end result:

Damn, I was too slow! The Honda-tech thread was mine, I posted it right after I did the conversion to my Fit. I just finished my DIY now and was coming to post it when I saw this. YUF's DIY pretty much covers it as the USDM and Canadian Fits are no different. If you're thinking of trying it and want something a bit more fleshed out and geared towards beginners though, you might like the DIY I just wrote as well, http://homepages.apci.net/~sirmyt/su...icalwiper.html

FWIW, I find it's nice having the wiper vertical as it's out of my line of site through the rearview mirror -- you can't see it at all.

Heh, funny that you both posted at nearly the same time!

I honestly think this really makes sense to keep dust and snow off of the wiper. I might have to consider doing this!

That is a benefit for sure I'd say. I know before my wiper would get all gritty from dirt, etc. thrown up from driving in the rain, but now it seems cleaner and wipes cleaner as well.

Give it a try, you can always revert back easily if you don't like it.

nice parking spot.. is that a common garage or do you have a big cover lot all to yourself?

I was just out driving and looked at my rear hatch, i don't see how this will make your wiper out of sight, since the stock one is already at the bottom of the window, not really in your way

It's a common garage/carport, 1 spot per apt. It's a really nice perk to have, especially in winter.

As for the wiper being out of the way, what I meant was when it's up at rest it's behind the right rear head rest when looking out the rearview mirror, so you don't see it at all since the head rest is already taking up space in that area anyway. Running of course, it's just like it always was.

Yes, it does. Not sure actually why they took it off in that DIY, there's no need to do so whatsoever. I just pulled the link bar and that clip out as one piece and replaced it the same way.

It's not....it's just a mod that is popular in Japan.

It's pretty much just a style thing -- aside from what was metioned above about dust, etc., and the new vertical resting position, it functions the same as it always did.
