Exclamation Could use some help...banged up my alloy rim....

Sounds like a rookie mistake (because it is), but I misjudged a curb while blowing a u-turn on a narrow street and scrubbed a rim pretty good. Hit hard enough for me to worry about destroying the tire. Anyway, I dont feel like spending a ton of money on a car I have only made one payment on, and was wondering if their was a way to improve the appearance. IE. smoothing it out with a high grit wheel grinder and polishing, or something along those lines. I have never done this before and I just want it to be presentable enough so people on the street dont say "Hey, looks like that shmuck cant drive." Hope someone can toss out a few ideas for me. It seems like their are some pretty knowledgable body/appearance people out there. Let me know what you think. The rims are stock 15" alloys.

There are places that can restore the rim to look like brand new for a lot less money than a new rim. /http://www.rimpro.com/ is an example. Do a Google search.

I have seen repaired rims and they look great!

Looks like it would run around $200 for a repair ($160 minimum looks like). I saw some decent rims on tirerack.com and discounttirerack.com for under $400 for a set. Something I may consider...dont feel like tossing out more than a grand at this time.

200 for a repair? The OEM wheel can't be more than $110 (and that's just a guess, as the HFP 16" are $160) - add $25 to mount your current tire, and it's done.

Thanks for the advice. I just assumed that they would rob you for OEM. I will just do what I can cosmetically for the rim (toss a tire on it and if it fits have a full spare) with dremel and some clear coat and put a new one on. Appreciate it. I'm gonna give a dealership a call tonight.

I'm very flexible on the price as these aren't exactly hot selling items...

Sucks to hear. I was very close in making your same mistake today. Anyhow, Collegehillshonda sells the rim for $280. Why not do Honda HFP on all four corners for $155 a piece?

You'd have to also include the cost of new tires, which would bump up the cost several more hundred dollars.

Touched up with a dremmel (some pics)

Did some smoothing of the rim to decrease the visibility with dremmel.

Before touch up...Nice huh?

Overview:

After a little grinding/smoothing out:
