Ticking noise when changing speeds

On a cold start, when I start driving and when I press on the accel lightly, I hear a slight click coming from the compartment. As I accel more, it gives another slight tick noise until it reaches a higher speed. Any ideas?

Oh, and its not a constant tick, its like a one time click like something is engaging.

Variable Valve Timing Electronically Controlled aka VTEC....

i believe the VTEC on the Fits engages from 12 valves to all 16 valves becoming active at around 3600-3800 rpm or so. so the clicks might be the locking pin going into place and activating the valves....
