Engine Lamp constantly lights on the instrument panel. Help me please
Hey.
I dont no where I should start this thread....
I am new to this forum and I like this site already :-)
Nice pictures and cars!
I have problems with my Honda Fit / Jazz 2002 model year.
1.4 liter engine and 84 hp. manual gearbox. AC.
* I'm not that good at either English or English technical terms or cars. hope you understand this and can help me.
To my problem: Engine light is on the panel all the time, Have drive over 250 Km with the engine lamp on.
It was off for a short while at runtime (in the evening) back from work, when I started the car on the morning after, do the engine lamp lights up again constant for over 750Km totally now.
Engine runs unevenly at idle, not visible on the rev counter, but it sounds a little bit when running, 950 Rpm its steady! blurring a bit, no blue smoke, that I've seen anyway.
A "poor" (long story) mechanic has said that it is wrong on the valves and the pressure in the cylinder # 1 is on low 3kg or bar.
I have talk to other people and they says its not that problem,
maybe it is the piston rings ? Or ignition coil(s)?
I dont have any loss from the engine (running good up to the "hills") I must feel if the are any losses from the engine and "no" compression (read: weak) in cylinder No:1.
(I think the mecanics people wants my money, I have my suspicions, like I say its an even longer story)
(Cant fix it now, have not the time to fix it. I have just a couple of hours every weekend to fix with the car and I loan/borrow a other car for my travels from Sweden to Norway now so please help me)
Or what do you think?
The car pulls a little oil around 1.5 liters on 4500km.
No loss of coolant and nothing strange about the car.
Run of bad half synthetic oil now.
The Engine rattles a little at cold start.
(there is snow and cold here in the North. Has my home in Sweden and my work in Norway)
I think its all, and I want to now about the problem not anything else please :-) My english its not that good to explain the whole story :-)) I hope you understand that. And thanks in avance.

If you are using 1.5 liters on 450km then you have some serious problems.
Rings could be worn/broken.
Time to look for a new car.
You have one long drive to Norway. You do it once a week or everyday?
Good luck

Sorry I ment 4500Km.
I drive from Gothenburg to Oslo every weekend.

As a start, you need to get someone with a code reader to plug in to your OBDII port (usually under the dash on the driver's side) and read the error codes for that "engine light".
Having never been in Northern Europe, I can not tell you exactly where to go to get that done. When I lived in Southern Europe I had difficulty finding automotive resources because of the language barrier. I only speak English and one Asian language. So I'm definitely no help where you are in Sweden and Norway.
Around here there would be several choices:
1. Honda dealer (most expensive)
2. Independent repair shop (a little cheaper)
3. By a cheap code reader and do it yourself ($50.00 USD and up)
4. Many Auto Parts stores will read them for free.
Once you have the code(s) you will have a place to start diagnosing the problem(s).
The oil consumption is a problem. If you stated the total Kilometers on your car, I missed it, but that rate of oil consumption is high by any measurement. High oil usage can be the result of a leak or internal burning of the oil.
First, look closely for leaks on (and especially on the bottom of) the engine. Also look on the ground where you park your car. If no leaks are evident then we have to assume it is burning the oil. Do not forget to check around the oil drain plug and oil filter.
If you are using synthetic oil you will never see smoke coming out of the exhaust when the engine is running. Also if you are using synthetic oil stop using it immediately until you find and fix the problem. When synthetic oil burns it leaves a deposit in the cylinders that is hard like a rock. It is almost impossible to remove even on engine tear down.
Internal engine oil consumption can caused by many things that range from expensive to very cheap to fix. I do not know the the layout or design of that engine. We do not have the 1.4 liter engine here.
Usually those oil problems are worn or broken piston wings, badly worn valve guides, cracked heads, or a blown head gasket. It also can be something as simple replacing a PCV (Positive crankcase Ventilation Valve) valve if it has one.
I would pull the spark plugs and look at their condition. I would also do a compression or better yet a leak down test of the cylinders to see what is going on. I would closely examine the oil for evidences of coolant (antifreeze). I'm look for a blown head gasket or cracked head.
Once you have the results from the code reader and the compression test, plus the visual inspection of the plugs we might be able to help you more. I'm hoping the someone more familiar with that 1.4 engine gets in here and gives you more specific help on that engine.
Good Luck

Tord,
Even though the engine light is not on right now. You can still read the codes because they are stored. So if you have someone with a OBDII reader go ahead and try to read read the codes.
You mentioned that you reset the codes. If you did the reset by disconnecting the battery, then the history codes will not be stored.
Good Luck
Ken

Thanks for your answer :-)
Cant checked that here in Norway, and I be here to next weekend started. (Next Friday) And next problem is to find anyone on saturday who can help me to read the stored code/s.
But if the are there (stored codes) then I could do it asop...:-))
I change the oil to syntetic and put some Slick 50 (PTFE engine treatment)... the lamp has not lightned since last.
I drive/drove (?) for at least 300Km since oil change and last time the engine lamp flashed. Its strange I think... Im very happy becouse I have not the money now, for an expensive engine repair. Thanks Ken!

Thanks for your reply or concerns :-))
Of course, of course, you will get to know, but it may take a couple of weeks
and lots of more Km :-) Next weekend (14/12) I drive at least 700 km or more. Every day here in Oslo I do not drive more than 25Km.
I'm so glad I found this site!
And all the happy people that Lets me know more about this car!

Engine is fine just that damn light. Put a piece of tape over it so you can't see it and drive it until it quits. Then buy a new Fit.
Serious I have no idea what is wrong. If you give Honda a lot of money they could likely repair it.

Why even endeavored to write in my post then you do not add a thing.
