p1172

We've got a 2007 sport a/t.

I've got a question for those of you who've had the p1172 code and replaced the o2 sensor. I've read all the stuff on this board (and elsewhere online) that I can find about the p1172 code and the necessary ecm/pcm update -- so here's my question:

Is there any problem with replacing the sensor first, and then going to get the ecm/pcm update like a week or two later? I'd like to save some money by changing the sensor myself, but we're also (over-) due on our inspection so if the update needs to come first, then I figure we're out of luck and we'll need to have the update performed and sensor replaced at the same time so we can pass inspection and drive away.

Or has anyone had long-term success skipping the update in total?

Thanks for your help -- I use the board all the time, but have always found the answers I'm looking for without having to ask!

You can change the sensor first think about it how would the ECM know if it's an old or new sensor.

Thanks Loudbang. My real concern is that if I swap the sensor before the parameters have been reset in the ECM, it might crap out the new sensor like it did the old one.

But, then again, if it took six years to crap out the original sensor, I'm sure I'm just being overly paranoid. I'm going ahead and swapping it.

They get crapped out from sniffing exhaust fumes every day.... that would do it to anybody.
